Amber: 1776

Tara Kunkel
Slot
Slot 4

As the Black Road stretched through Shadow, fear took hold on the Royal Family of Amber. With war on the horizon, a safe house was created for the young on shadow Earth. Members of the palace guard were hand chosen to look after the children. As their parents said their farewells, they promised a quick return. That was fifteen years ago.

Now the threat of war has come to the American colonies. Tea has been dumped into the Boston Harbor. Skirmishes are breaking out near daily between the British soldiers and the revolutionaries. In Philadelphia, the chosen representatives of the colonies argue over the future. As the world changes, the young Amberites find themselves forced into action to ensure their safety and survival.

Slot
Slot 4

Every player is a scion of Amber.  Bring a PC you like to play because the GMs are not bringing a plot. We expect characters to be the plot.

The Regent is holding Amber together while most Elders are negotiating the PatternFall treaty in Chaos.

Amber canon.... out in the infinite shadows. Random is King. Zelazny's books are somewhat reliable. Characters can work on ties to other PCs with the GM before Con.

PCs must be built for 80 pts. Characters submitted to GM prior to the convention can be built for 100 pts. Please include (with your PC info) a Shadow location you think might be fun to explore -- one familiar to your PC or one from canon.

Living in the Future

Mike Manolakes
Slot
Slot 4

You are a Traveler, one of twelve individuals who possess the most powerful object on Earth -- the timeband. Travelers can control time: slow time down, stop it, or travel to any era to rewrite history. Some Travelers are your allies. Others are your deadly enemies. All are engaged in a struggle spanning many centuries to prevent -- or achieve -- the destiny of mankind known as Variation Seven.

"Living in the Future" is my adaptation, in game form, of my science fiction novel of the same name, the third book in a series that follows "Variation Seven" and "Strange Times". I will be using the character generation system and game setting that I used at previous Ambercons with "Variation Seven and "Strange Times"; however, "Living in the Future" is a stand-alone adventure, and no knowledge of the previous episodes is required. If you played in "Variation Seven" at Ambercon 2016 or "Strange Times" at Ambercon 2018, you are welcome to use the same character or create a new one.

Player-characters will be individuals who have come into possession of a timeband and can be from any era in history, real or alternate. Rules for character generation will be sent out prior to the con, and characters should be submitted prior to the con.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Character generation rules will be sent out prior to con. Players will need to create and submit a character prior to the con.

Razor-Edge of Fate: Childhood's End

Kit Kindred

Slot 4

Things fall apart. Nothing lasts forever.  Monsters rise. Heroes die. Who can the demigods trust? Who can they turn to? Or is it already too late?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Please email kitkindred@gmail.com ASAP for character generation instructions or to request a pregen character. Characters are demigods drawn by Fate to perform heroic tasks in a modern world that believes their godly parents are only myths and legends, a world that must remain blissfully unaware of the secret dangers that threaten it.

There is another session of Razor-Edge of Fate in Slot 1. It is a different adventure in the same setting. Players may play in one or both games if they wish.

Sea Was A'Boiling

Madeline Ferwerda Bernard
Slot
Slot 4

You are the officers and crew of the Maersk Paamiut, the first major shipping line's foray into sending a container vessel through the Northwest Passage. It's high summer 2020, and while there are still risks from ice and unmapped passages and what-all, it's pretty clear which way the wind is blowing... And that wind is hot. Someone has to do it, and it's going to be you.

But this is not a game about manning a container ship in a happy world. Take the current political situation, run it forward to the election in which America's feeble-minded president feels as threatened as he ever has, and recognize that this is a game about a tight-knit competent group of people who will have to rescue themselves from an apocalypse... Because there may not be anyone else left who can.

This is the same game that ran at ACNW 2017, so if you were in that one, no need to be in this also.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
I'll provide pregenerated character frames that you'll get to flesh out; pick before the con or at the start of the slot.

ShadowWorld Mainline (Friday Night)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 4

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world, except that, under the facade of media, politics, political correctnes and 'reality' there is a ShadowWorld where strange things happen: psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public. The players are psionically gifted operators of a secret organization sent on a mission. Though an ongoing world setting, it is an episodic campaign: new players are welcome.

The real world in the current day, with a few changes (e.g. Quebec, Ontario the provinces east of it became a country and, with Cuba, Ecuador and Vanuatu, formed a Commonwealth). To the public there is more terrorist acts, more military action, and, recently, more weird events (e.g. Jupiter ignited into a star, astronomers claim we skipped ahead a day in Earth's orbit, Scotland got covered in ancient forests and physically became larger, the Ark of the Covenant was found).

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld involves many adult themes, in particular, if you take (your) religion seriously, playing ShadowWorld likely is not for you.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
If you don't have an existing character that you will play again, contact the GM by email (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) with at least a vague idea for an outline of a concept. You can play any character with regards to background, skills, etcetera, as long as your background makes you suitable to be recruited by a US-based organization. Your character will have one or more psionic powers, have some mystical nature, or both.

Though Much is Taken, Much Abides: Showing the Flag

J.P. Brannan
Slot
Slot 4

Amber is made weak by time and fate, but is still strong in will. Twenty years ago a new King, Random, returned victorious from the Patternfall War fought in the Courts of Chaos. The Epoch of Oberon had ended, and Eric's attempt to ignite a new age of glory had already died in ashes when it had scarcely begun. The King found he had inherited a kingdom cut off from its trading partners, depleted by war, and only kept afloat in the intervening years by the heroic efforts of Prince Regent Gerard. Now you are younger members of the royal family in service to the throne, working not only to preserve and defend Amber, but to create the Amber of the future. Diplomats, soldiers, traders, courtiers, and provocateurs, you must be proud, bold, pleasant, resolute, and now and then stab, as occasion serves. Random's worked hard to rebuild what he can of the Golden Circle military and trade alliance. It's hard to rebuild something that took Oberon centuries to build, and those who remember Amber before the war whisper that Amber hasn't regained the full measure of it's former glory. Following a disastrous diplomatic summit, Random has decided to send you out into the Golden Circle on a "Good Will" tour. It sounded so simple the first time he told you...

What Comes to Light

Linda Duncan
Slot
Slot 4

A couple of months back, the Blue Dragon bar burned to the ground taking with it several blocks of one the more ‘unkempt’ districts around the docks. While this was not a particularly unusual occurrence for that neighborhood, this time the area remains cordoned off with the castle guard maintaining a presence in the area; thus depriving many of their favorite entertainment possibilities. Rumors are rampant as to why; perhaps the bar was well named.

This game is open to characters, who feel a responsibility toward Amber and/or Amber City, owe Random a favor, or can be encouraged (all right, coerced) into being helpful.

This game takes place after the Merlin books. Random rules in Amber; Merlin reigns in the Courts and all is well and stable in the multi-verse. Least as far as you know.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Ambercons should have Amber games and this is one. What Comes to Light is an old-fashion shared world game that operates as a serial. Bring a favorite character: Amberite or Chaosian. While points are limit to 200, a strong concept and a well known background are more important than the point count. The GM will contact players before the con.
