Murias: The Power of Metal

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 1

Murias is the last of the great cities of the Tuatha de Danaan. In the place that exists between realms, the elves of the Tuatha de Danaan used to wield unimaginable power to shape the reality of faerie, but now they barely venture out of their gated communities. To stop Murias from disappearing like her sister cities, the elves invited mortals and other fae creatures to settle in the city....turning the city into a modern metropolis where trolls and pooka exist side-by-side with humans who have made their way from the mundane world to settle into the In-Between.

Your band, Claimh Solais, has been touring the world, promoting your newest album, "End of Days." Every night is a new town and a new club. The days have started to blend into each other, but every where you go, the faithful scream your name. You were riding into Detroit this morning....and something happened. When the bus exited off the freeway.....you were certain there weren't going to be dragons in Detroit.

Lost in Fae, can the power metal band find their way home? After seeing the splendor of the dreaming city, would they want to return to the mundane reality of the material world? Will the power of their music help them carve out a new legend in a city filled with legends?

This is the first in a new series of games set in the Faerie Noir setting of Murias. This game will be run using the latest version of the KEY RPG System. Pre-gens will be provided.

Peril Soup at Duck House

Amanda Robinson
Slot
Slot 1

Rufus T. Firefly, the newly-appointed leader of Freedonia, has been the target of several failed assassination attempts. Players are characters tasked with figuring out who wants Firefly dead and putting a stop to the assassination attempts-- except that they ALSO want Firefly dead.

"Plot" is a loose (very, very loose) mashup of Agatha Christie's Peril at End House and the Marx Brothers' Duck Soup, with a lot of player-driven background added in. Players do not have to be familiar with either story. In fact, players may wish to avoid both stories entirely, lest they be wildly disappointed in how far the game strays.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Characters are people who want Rufus T. Firefly to die, either for personal reasons or political ones. They are also people who Firefly would task with stopping the assassination attempts (though Rufus T. Firefly is originally a Groucho Marx character and "You were selling peanuts outside my window so I made you a cabinet member" is perfectly reasonable to him, and thus any thin excuse will do just fine.)

Character creation uses the Paragraph System, in which you tell me a paragraph about your character, and I reserve the right to ask questions.

Random Harvest

Linda Duncan
Slot
Slot 1

They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder. The youngest and least favored son of the royal family of Amber found this old adage to be particularly true. Fortunately for Prince Random, the possibilities of shadow are limitless and he had plenty of time to enjoy their diversity.

Much to everyone surprise, including his own, Prince Random finds that he is now King Random I of Amber with all the potential and responsibilities involved in that title. Not the least of which is, that after centuries of spreading his seed throughout the multiverse, the time has come to gather the harvest.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This is a new, player driven campaign set in the early days of King Random’s reign. The PC will be the shadow born children of Random; who have, up to this time, had limited access to knowledge of Amber and power. Characters will be created before the con via email with the GM. This is not a children’s game. PCs must be in their late teen or adults of any age, while Random may have some young children to gather, they will be confined to the nursery and no fun to play.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Please email kitkindred@gmail.com ASAP for character generation instructions or to request a pregen character. ShadowWorld Mainline (Thursday Night)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 1

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world, except that, under the facade of media, politics, political correctnes and 'reality' there is a ShadowWorld where strange things happen: psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public. The players are psionically gifted operators of a secret organization sent on a mission. Though an ongoing world setting, it is an episodic campaign: new players are welcome.

The real world in the current day, with a few changes (e.g. Quebec, Ontario the provinces east of it became a country and, with Cuba, Ecuador and Vanuatu, formed a Commonwealth). To the public there is more terrorist acts, more military action, and, recently, more weird events (e.g. Jupiter ignited into a star, astronomers claim we skipped ahead a day in Earth's orbit, Scotland got covered in ancient forests and physically became larger, the Ark of the Covenant was found).

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld involves many adult themes, in particular, if you take (your) religion seriously, playing ShadowWorld likely is not for you.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
If you don't have an existing character that you will play again, contact the GM by email (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) with at least a vague idea for an outline of a concept. You can play any character with regards to background, skills, etcetera, as long as your background makes you suitable to be recruited by a US-based organization. Your character will have one or more psionic powers, have some mystical nature, or both.

Emergence (1 of 2)

Rae H. Williams
Slot
Slot 2

The 22nd year of a 5 year campaign.  Where does the time go?

Last year, there seemed to be an open house at the Prana construct.  Everyone who was anyone ended up there at one time or another.  There’s a need to find a God for the Kazue, as there is a fear of who it might become.  There was some more discussion about the screaming souls and what can be done to free them.  Lowen and Melian (with a bit of help from Trisk) worked on the “squiggles” that are scattered through Shadow.  Trisk explored Caine’s pocket Shadow and found a new pet.  Corwin was recuperating in a hospital and Deirdre is missing again (maybe they should put a LoJack on her).  Ulysses ended up in a city full of dread, where he heard voices and found people stuck in ooze kind of like Pompeii.  Flora began walking the Prana and at the 2nd veil disappeared.  Marcon Trumped her and heard screaming before a giant red tentacle reached through and pulled him through.  Hanuman took Melian to the Dancing Mountains, where they found broken, table, chairs, game board and pieces.  Lowen convinced Gramble to supply Shadow-makers to help with the “squiggles”.  Ulysses charged into the ooze and rescued Deirdre . . . sort of.  Breathing body and soul somewhere in here, but no persona.

Just a few things going on.

Infinite Amber: The Consciousness of the King

J.P. Brannan
Slot
Slot 2

Amber: eternal; the city without an end. After the adventures of Corwin and Merlin, it was no longer believed to be the center of the universe. Instead it is one pole of reality. War and rivalries have reshaped the universe. Kings Random and Merlin sit on the thrones of Amber and Chaos. Random's Amber will call upon all the resources at its disposal to preserve and reassert Amber's primacy. Those resources include you, his nieces and nephews, the latest generation of Amber's growing royal family. Together you'll face a threat unlike many Amber has faced before.

Dangling in the lifeless void beyond Reality were other Realities, Realms of Pattern like Amber and yet not. All of the realms had been connect by the most tenuous of threads, but Corwin's creation stretched in the void, causing realities to collide. Amber now contends with other powers, some friendly, some not. As hostilities increase, Prince Martin is intent of taking the initiative, and his primary focus is finding a way to revive his stricken father, King Random, from his cursed slumber. He can't do it alone, and that's where you come in.

NOTE: Though technically an 'ongoing series' this is highly episodic and new players will NOT be at a disadvantage.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Characters will be King Random's nieces and nephews. An alternative rule set will be used for "Infinite Amber", which will is available online at https://brannan.jp/mw/index.php?title=Infinite_Amber

The GM will contact players to help with character generation prior to the convention. (For people already familiar with this: we'll be using the Infinite Amber version 2.4 rules, a simplified revision of rules that have been played at other conventions.) GM is willing to assist with character generation or even provide pre-generated characters if notified in advance: jp@brannan.jp

Shadow Trek: To Boldly Go

Rain Donaldson
Slot
Slot 2

Deep Shadow, the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Shadowship Ghostwheel. Our ongoing mission to explore strange new Shadows, to seek out new Powers and new Sentiences, and to boldly go where no Amberite has gone before.

Inspired by the Star Trek TV show, Ghostwheel has recruited a number of exceptional individuals from Amber, Thelbane, and Shadow to help him explore regions of Deep Shadow far from Amber and Chaos. Series has played once at Amber Central and once at Ambercon Northwest. Second time at ACUS. Individual sessions will feature unique self contained stories although some developments may carry over from session to session.

Setting is Deep Shadow- Worlds so far from Amber that it would take centuries to walk there through Shadow. The Shadowship Ghostwheel brings a crew of volunteers to these Shadows. Ghostwheel provides a few suggestions of worlds that might be worth a closer look. PCs may choose from the options provided or request that Ghostwheel search for something of their choosing. This is an Amber Game with a strong Star Trek flavor inspired by a now defunct Amber campaign run by Cathy Klessig. New and returning players welcome.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Submit a 100 point ADRPG character at least two weeks before the con. Amberites, Chaosians, or exceptional Shadows are all ok. Gm may ask questions to clarify background, motivation, and interests. Players may send a detailed description of their desired character and have the GM assign points instead. Phasers, Communicators, Tricorders, Shuttles, Transporter, Replicator, Holodeck, and the Shadowship Ghostwheel do not cost character points. Familiarity with Amber isn't necessary to play. Familiarity with Star Trek isn't necessary to play, but hasn't everyone at the con seen at least one episode of Star Trek?

Shadows over Rynn's World

James Arnoldi

Slot 2

The universe is a dangerous place full of terrors, but The Emperor protects. No alien has dared set foot on the soil of Rynn's World in many centuries. The presence of the superhuman Space Marines and the Rynnsguard Planetary Defense Force deters anyone but the most insane. Unfortunately, Space Orks are not known for their sanity or logic and a great invasion force is heading towards Rynn's World. The planet Badlanding has already fallen to the coming horde and the Crimson Fists lost almost the entirety of the 3rd Company trying to defend that planet. However, the rest of the chapter has gathered on Rynn's World and preparations are under way for what could be a long siege.

This game is set in the grim-dark world of Warhammer 40k. Knowledge of the setting is not necessary. Player characters will be pre-generated and will include a mix of Space Marines and humans who will need to work together if anyone can survive the coming threat.

The Time of the Silver Pack

Tara Kunkel
Slot
Slot 2

Stalker of Tales frowned as she peered up at the night sky. The moon. It is out of place. Born a wolf, the world had presented her with many strange things since her first change. But this? This was beyond unnatural. Howls broke out around her. The others had noticed it too. Was this the end of time? Were the mutterings of the mad child that had wandering into the Caern true? Shaking her head, she shifted from her human form back to the comfort of lupus and set off to speak with her Alpha.

The year is 1997. Strange portents and shifts have been happening across the globe. The call has gone out for the formation of a silver pack to unite the tribes and find answers. You have been chosen to represent your home Sept. Though you have taken a rite of passage, you are not yet part of a pack. If chosen for the Silver Pack, you will bring much honor to your Sept and Tribe. Do you have what it takes to defend Gaia and help unite the Garou against this unknown threat?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
GM will contact players to discuss tribes and auspices. No experience with the genre is necessary. I will explain everything you need to know in the welcoming email. Pre-gens will be available upon request. Come and have fun.

For those who would like to create their characters, they will be built using 2nd edition Werewolf: The Apocalypse rules. Players may choose up to 7 points of merits or flaws from any 2nd edition Werewolf rule book or supplement. 30 freebie points instead of 15. The Wreck of the Hyperion - A Star Wars Edge of the Empire Adventure

Michael McLawhorn
Slot
Slot 2

"Find a ship, find a crew, find a job, keep flying."

You and your crew have no time for Star Wars, for Rebellions or Emperors, for ancient religions. You just want to keep working, stay ahead of your debts, and not lose your lives or your freedom to Hutt cartels, Imperial troopers, or any of the thousand dangers out here in the stars at the fringes of Galactic civilization.

The TX-01 Deep Space Beacon, pride of the Imperial Core of Engineers, designed to chart new star lanes and guide and monitor traffic between a hundred scattered systems was only a day from being fully operational before being mysteriously destroyed. Now the area is swarming with Imperial investigators which spells problems for your rag-tag crew of quasi legal salvagers.

That would be bad for business any day, but you just got hold of a star map purporting to lead to the wreckage of the Republic luxury liner, Hyperion, lost with all souls for more than two decades. But you're not sure you have the only copy. Can you claim your prize before other salvagers, criminals, or Imperial Military Intelligence interfere to end your travels forever?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact the GM to create characters. We will be using Fate based hack of Star Wars inspired by the Edge of Empire setting by Fantasy Flight. Essentially, a crew of outsiders, criminals and ne'er do wells trying to scrape out a living on the fringe.

Guardians of Chaos and Amber in Trouble! (Again)

Craig Johnson
Slot
Slot 3

Another year has gone by and there has been so many ungrateful people to save...
You get no respect. You should be on par as an Amber Prince or Chaos Lord - it is your right by birth and you have earned it. More than those Court Flunkies have done.
Now - they need you. Again! They all need you!
Yes, one of your parents was a Lord of Creation, a Prince of Amber or Chaos and you have suppressed powers. You are a good guy, sort of, well, misunderstood. Big deal.
Seems that Mandor and Fiona are at it again and need your help. With people like them, it's easy to see why there is a desire for so many in Shadow to obliterate Chaos and Amber.
Now power is shifting - your role is grudgingly recognized as the Guardians of Chaos and Amber, not just the Suicide Squad out of Tartarus or its Juvenile Hall equivalent.
The Universes is not going be the same again!

Slot 3

U.A. Magical Customs and Immigration Service (MCIS) administers the nation's lawful immigration system as it pertains to magical entities and their dimensions of origin, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values.

U.A. MCIS is the nation’s largest paranormal law enforcement organization, charged with keeping problematic entities, their agents and their weapons out of United America while facilitating lawful inter-dimensional travel and trade. The staff of MCIS are responsible for enforcing hundreds of U.A. laws and regulations. On a typical day, MCIS welcomes more than ten thousand entities, screens more than 200 pocket dimensions, arrests numerous entities, and seizes nearly 6 tons of illicit magics.

Due to an increase of incoming volume and range, an additional 86 ports of entry opened in 2018, including your newly assigned duty station in Livonia, Michigan.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This is a freeform LARP, wherein you play an MCIS agent responsible for inspection of entrance papers of inter-dimensional entities and deciding which entities will or will not be allowed to enter.

The game explores the intersection of the magical and the mundane, the whimsical and the bureaucratic. It includes light satire of US immigration policy, but is not focused thereon. For example, the players are citizens of the fictional country “United America”, which includes the real world countries of Canada, Mexico and the United States.

No character pre-creation or other preparation is required, but business or business-casual attire for costuming is suggested.

Members of the palace guard were hand chosen to look after the children. As their parents said their farewells, they promised a quick return. That was fifteen years ago.

Living in the Future

Mike Manolakes
Slot
Slot 4

You are a Traveler, one of twelve individuals who possess the most powerful object on Earth -- the timeband. Travelers can control time: slow time down, stop it, or travel to any era to rewrite history. Some Travelers are your allies. Others are your deadly enemies. All are engaged in a struggle spanning many centuries to prevent -- or achieve -- the destiny of mankind known as Variation Seven.

"Living in the Future" is my adaptation, in game form, of my science fiction novel of the same name, the third book in a series that follows "Variation Seven" and "Strange Times". I will be using the character generation system and game setting that I used at previous Ambercons with "Variation Seven and "Strange Times"; however, "Living in the Future" is a stand-alone adventure, and no knowledge of the previous episodes is required. If you played in "Variation Seven" at Ambercon 2016 or "Strange Times" at Ambercon 2018, you are welcome to use the same character or create a new one.

Player-characters will be individuals who have come into possession of a timeband and can be from any era in history, real or alternate. Rules for character generation will be sent out prior to the con, and characters should be submitted prior to the con.

Slot 4

You are the officers and crew of the Maersk Paamiut, the first major shipping line's foray into sending a container vessel through the Northwest Passage. It's high summer 2020, and while there are still risks from ice and unmapped passages and what-all, it's pretty clear which way the wind is blowing... And that wind is hot. Someone has to do it, and it's going to be you.

But this is not a game about manning a container ship in a happy world. Take the current political situation, run it forward to the election in which America's feeble-minded president feels as threatened as he ever has, and recognize that this is a game about a tight-knit competent group of people who will have to rescue themselves from an apocalypse... Because there may not be anyone else left who can.

This is the same game that ran at ACNW 2017, so if you were in that one, no need to be in this also.

ShadowWorld Mainline (Friday Night)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 4

Though Much is Taken, Much Abides: Showing the Flag

J.P. Brannan
Slot
Slot 4

Amber is made weak by time and fate, but is still strong in will. Twenty years ago a new King, Random, returned victorious from the Patternfall War fought in the Courts of Chaos. The Epoch of Oberon had ended, and Eric's attempt to ignite a new age of glory had already died in ashes when it had scarcely begun. The King found he had inherited a kingdom cut off from its trading partners, depleted by war, and only kept afloat in the intervening years by the heroic efforts of Prince Regent Gerard. Now you are younger members of the royal family in service to the throne, working not only to preserve and defend Amber, but to create the Amber of the future. Diplomats, soldiers, traders, courtiers, and provocateurs, you must be proud, bold, pleasant, resolute, and now and then stab, as occasion serves. Random's worked hard to rebuild what he can of the Golden Circle military and trade alliance. It's hard to rebuild something that took Oberon centuries to build, and those who remember Amber before the war whisper that Amber hasn't regained the full measure of it's former glory. Following a disastrous diplomatic summit, Random has decided to send you out into the Golden Circle on a "Good Will" tour. It sounded so simple the first time he told you...

What Comes to Light

Linda Duncan
Slot
Slot 4

A couple of months back, the Blue Dragon bar burned to the ground taking with it several blocks of one the more ‘unkempt’ districts around the docks. While this was not a particularly unusual occurrence for that neighborhood, this time the area remains cordoned off with the castle guard maintaining a presence in the area; thus depriving many of their favorite entertainment possibilities. Rumors are rampant as to why; perhaps the bar was well named.

This game is open to characters, who feel a responsibility toward Amber and/or Amber City, owe Random a favor, or can be encouraged (all right, coerced) into being helpful.

This game takes place after the Merlin books. Random rules in Amber; Merlin reigns in the Courts and all is well and stable in the multi-verse. Least as far as you know.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Ambercons should have Amber games and this is one. What Comes to Light is an old-fashion shared world game that operates as a serial. Bring a favorite character: Amberite or Chaosian. While points are limit to 200, a strong concept and a well known background are more important than the point count. The GM will contact players before the con.

And All Of Our Yesterdays Have Lighted Fools, Part 16

Rae H. Williams
Slot
Slot 5

I will warn players, the 2019 version will not be based on a Shakespeare's comedy (though there seems to be a lot of laughter during the game).  Because of things done in last year's game by the players, the universe is going to be different.  New players don't need to know what happened in the past 15 sessions.

Although this is a series, each game is a separate story.  Returning players have a bit of the history as part of the game, but it is not necessary to know the story.  Each part of this series is based on a different Shakespeare play. You don’t have to be an aficianado of the Bard to enjoy the game.  The main points were: Random, Dworkin, Oberon, and Moire are dead.  Eric was found in a  monastery somewhere, not dead; and he and Bleys are regents in Amber.  Martin is married to a Hellmaid and there is a construct that took over for Eric and Ghostwheel running the universe.  Oh, and there are 3 Caines, 3 Julians, and 3 Gérards running around.  Or has it all changed?  There was some time travel last year to save a marriage and life, and a message left for a future Fiona.  Will this change things in current time?  Sign up and we’ll find out.  If you sign up, I'll give you more info.

Each part of this series is based on a different Shakespeare play.  You don’t have to be an aficianado to enjoy the game.  Part 1 was based on "MacBeth." Part 2 was "The Merchant of Venice." Part 3 was "The Comedy of Errors." Part 4 was "Romeo And Juliet." Part 5 was "As You Like It."  Part 6 was “King John.”  Part 7 was “Henry VI, Part 2.”  Part 8 was “All’s Well That Ends Well.”  Part 9 was "Measure For Measure."   Part 10 was “Henry VIII.” Part 11 was “The Tempest.” Part 12 was “Henry VI, Part 1” Part 13 was “Julius Caesar”.  Part 14 was “Loves Labours Lost”.  Part 15 was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”.  Part 16 is based on another Shakespeare play, but you'll have to guess which.

Lammas Night - The Halcyon Days to Equinox

Craig Johnson
Slot
Slot 5

Inside Amber Castle, King Oberon and Queen Paulette have honoured their children Mirelle and Random’s 25th birthday despite threats to King and Country.
Risks have been overcome from the Moonriders to the threats of internal dissention. Caine and Julian with Eric have stormed out of the Court and are off brooding after a series of reversals. Which young princesses/princes have been the hand of Oberon or the boot of Corwin?
Oberon’s former Royal Mistress, Darlene Helgram covets the diamond necklace, once given to her, but re-gifted to Princess Deirdre
In this uneasy fog of peace with Amber and Chaos, lurks further opportunity for the wise, the ruthless and the daring.
With Lammas behind, there is coming of Fall as Amber City’s halcyon summer slowly draws to a close and the Autumnal Equinox looms.  The harvests from Garnath Castle to Oberon’s summer retreat of Sans Souci is receiving troubling news. The grain, the olives, the grapes, the cheeses all seem blighted and this is not explainable by normal means.
King Oberon and his Court now count on you, the young princesses and princes, to determine what is plaguing the richest and most critical part of Amber’s homeland. You need to save the rest of the Kingdom’s agricultural supply.
It is said the legendary quality of the grapes and olives of Sans Souci are shipped as far away as the Dragon Court of King Swayville himself in Thelbane Tower, Chaos.  This alone, may have the interest of King Swayville of Chaos.
It is said we, of the Blood of the Unicorn, are connected. There is forming a ripple effect. The actions of the one of us are affecting the future for us all. Even the seemingly insignificant gesture, careless action, or deliberate insult is making a tremendous difference in the days that follow the Court Session not so long ago.
These are the living stories of change. The greatest is beginning in this, the worst and the best of times. Even at this centre of power, hope is coming from even the most unexpected of sources. For your own origins as a scion of Oberon to the heart of the all reality - the only thing more powerful than a king is destiny yet does free will of your actions change that destiny and how?
Has your single act change everything? Has one woman or man make a difference? Will you continue to make change openly, covertly or discreetly as the others have recently done.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
New and returning players welcome!
This has become an open serial game which welcomes more contributors to this story in a little known period in Amber's long history.  Players may choose to be a daughter/son or grandchild of Oberon that is in the Amber Series. The Amber story started with canon but there are more secrets than Corwin told of the kingdom's past. Some of the recent history has been created by player actions and the reverberations/reactions.

Nine Princes in Ember

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 5

"I looked down at the great City of Ember and reflected. I was born a millennia after the age of Strife. I was not there when the forces of Amber clashed with the Courts of Chaos but the scars of that great war could still be seen in the worlds of shadow. Bottomless chasms or rifts in space all leading to the Abyss for anyone dumb enough to plum their depths.....and here in Ember the uneasy alliance of the survivors of the great cataclysm could be seen in the architecture. The districts seemed designed to protect themselves against each other. Was it likely that the great houses would betray each other. No. We all knew that without the Worldforge and the combined powers that fueled it, we would all be plunged into the Abyss. The Abyss had a taste of our realities during the cataclysm and it hungered for more. Those great chasms and scars did more to keep the peace than my father ever could since they stood as warning of what awaited us if our alliance disolved." -Excerpt from the diary of Prince Ion of House Emerald.

This game is set in an Alternate Amber and will use an adaption of the Key RPG System. Characters will be created by email before the con. Target:AMBER

Slot
Slot 5

This time, this place (well, sorta, there were a few minor changes). You are elite soldiers from militaries around the world, and attached specialist and even civilians, in a black ops program dealing with invasion of Earth by non-humans, the TARGETS. The Colonels' Council running the program generates missions ranging from reconnaissance of parallel worlds reachable through the tunnel system, to support and expansion of off-world bases and even a proto-colony, in case Earth falls. This is current day Earth, sort of. This is Amber, sort of. Target:AMBER grew out of Patrick Brady at AmberCon UK running a one-shot (which became a 9 year campaign that ended half a decade ago) musing on the casual strength and resilience of Amberites described in the first books, and consider what the whole package would be, in speed, reaction speed, senses. Consider dogs that can run down a Mercedes and tear pieces off of it, and think what it would mean to face a pack of those, as a mere mortal, with Earth arms and armor. Consider how many Amberites have visited Earth over the years, and how they play games. This starts on Earth as we know it, but a bit different. The multiverse after the first five books, and then some. This is Target:AMBER V2. It is not a spin-off, not a reboot, this is a continuation of Target: AMBER, as run by Patrick Brady at AmberCon UK, and the spinoff set in the same universe run by Tim Hart at Ambercon NorthWest. What more can I tell you?

The Crimson Guard: Entitlement's Cost

Some things on this earth are unspeakable:
Genealogy of the broken—
A shy wind threading leaves after a massacre,
Or the smell of coffee and no one there—

Some humans say trees are not sentient beings,
But they do not understand poetry—

Nor can they hear the singing of trees when they are fed by
Wind, or water music—
Or hear their cries of anguish when they are broken and bereft—

Now I am a woman longing to be a tree, planted in a moist, dark earth
Between sunrise and sunset—

I cannot walk through all realms—
I carry a yearning I cannot bear alone in the dark—

What shall I do with all this heartache?

The deepest-rooted dream of a tree is to walk
Even just a little ways, from the place next to the doorway—
To the edge of the river of life, and drink—
I have heard trees talking, long after the sun has gone down:

Imagine what would it be like to dance close together
In this land of water and knowledge. . .

To drink deep what is undrinkable.

Amber in Pieces

Mike Manolakes
Slot
Slot 6

A group of people, living unrelated lives in a variety of dissimilar worlds, discovers that each has something in common with the others. There is a secret from their pasts, something momentous that will bring them together to fight a desperate battle against the forces of darkness. For each of them is a piece to a puzzle called Amber.

"Amber in Pieces" is a game I wrote for a group of players, some of whom were not familiar with the Amber books. This game is designed to be a good starting place for anyone new to Amber, but it's also a game where an experienced player can start a new character whose history is not yet written. At the start of the game, all player-characters will be 0-level characters living in Shadow worlds, but there will be a point in game play where players can give their characters Amber-level attributes and powers.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Players should have an idea for a character they'd like to play living in any world of Shadow, i.e., any time period on any world, real or fantasy. Full backstories are encouraged, but GM reserves the right to change some details -- what a character believes to be true about their past may not be. Players may send their ideas to the GM prior to the con or bring them to the con.

Random is “asking” you to take on a mission for him. Seems two children are missing and he’d like you to find them. How much trouble could Martin and Merlin get into after all? And how hard could it be to find them? There’s not much space to cover between Amber and Chaos. Random does have a starting point for you.

This one won’t be a typical Shadow seek and find, and more player driven that GM led.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
150 point characters. No exalted powers and different powers should be run by me before the game. In the book Jack the Ripper saved the world, at Ambercon 2008 it was Long John Silver. The world is again in jeopardy; will you save it or help bring about its demise? This game is based on the Roger Zelanzy book of the same name. Knowledge of the book is not required, but will help convey the theme and pacing. Players take on any iconic character from history or fiction (the Great Detective, the Man of Steel, the deadly robot from the future, the eccentric millionaire, etc.) and decide whether they wish to bring about the end of the world, or save it. The players’ actions during the course of October determine the fate of the world on Halloween!

ShadowWorld: Crime Leagues

Rob Haight
Slot
Slot 6

This serial campaign is set on Earth in the 1950s, an alternate timeline where psionics exist and most psionics for various reasons turn to a life of crime. Characters are drawn into a newly established criminal syndicate to use their wits, cunning, powers and brute force in the transformational years where old world orders are crumbling with money and power to be had in plenty for those who can take it. Note: This game has the potential to turn historic and religious events upside-down. Players who have difficulty separating their personal cultural or religious beliefs from those of their characters may find elements of this game disturbing and may wish to look elsewhere.

Psionic ability is not a heritage of the privileged unless they have gone off to war or suffered terrible misfortune. It is much more common among the poorest classes struggling for survival. However psionic abilities remain largely unknown to the general population. Science pokes and prods at the concepts of psionics, but because few people come forward claiming psionic ability and because scientists have been unable to bring people to the breaking points where psionic abilities emerge. Psionics are often drawn into the underworld because they have grown up on the street and their abilities give them a chance at a step up in life, they are combat veterans looking to stay in the profession or variously find that what they seek in life is not to be found in more reputable occupations and lifestyles

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Star Wars: Fall of the Jedi

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 6

In 1977 George Lucas released Star Wars, the first in his trilogy of science fiction movies. In that trilogy, he hinted at a lot of back story for the universe and there was talk about creating a series of prequels that would fill in the details of the Clone Wars and how Darth Vader and the Emperor rose to power. We never saw those prequels....

The Clone War wages on. While most of the Empire's attention focuses on that struggle, the Jedi have a greater mystery to solve. Who are the Sith? Why did they kidnap and murder Anakin Skywalker? Why did they clone him to create Darth Vader? Did they ever truly know Anakin?

This series is a "first series purist" game. Only events in the original trilogy are considered canon. New players are welcome. Each scenario stands on its own. Returning players will have additional XP to spend on their character. Characters can be Jedi, soldiers, charming rogues or anything else that could have fit in the original movie trilogy.

The Lone and Level Sands

These are the New Worlds.

We are a team of Path Masters from Earth--what we now know is one of many Earths. As Path Masters, we can spot and traverse Shadow Paths. For the past year we have lived and worked in the crossroads city of Cynosure for many reasons: recon, adventure, employment, to save our home. Over that time, we have heard rumors of a mysterious employer, one who demands incredible commitment from their people, but who also provides incredible rewards: access to Jewel Ghosts; horses of Arden; weapons of allShadow; passkeys to the locked Realms of Faerie.

After many successful independent missions, we've now received Cynosure's fabled golden ticket, an invitation to the back room of a certain bar.

The bar is called Munden's, and the interview is with someone code-named OZYMANDIUS.

SETTINGS:
Cynosure: the shattered mirror of the Keep of Four Worlds, a crossroads of the many ShadowPaths. It is a hundred years after Patternfall and decades after the Veils fell from our eyes ...

Amber: the rose of creation, faded now that the shaping hands of the Pattern have lost their strength, but still considered the Father of all Shadow--a father who may yet be jealous of his lost power.

Chaos: a scattered but wealthy collection of realms well-positioned to take advantage of the changes wrought when the Pattern lost its sway, a hive of "scum and villainy," heroism, beauty, and danger.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Pre-generated character skill packages will be provided. We will create your team's primary origin Shadow together before the con along with the idea of why making a big score now is important to you, and what your team seeks from OZYMANDIUS as its reward.

Our group of young Wardens of the Grand Stair undertake a perilous quest. Luckily they have the infinite resources of the Stair to help them...

This game is intended for kids 7-14, with parents of kids on the younger side encouraged to join us as well.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This game is set in the Lords of Gossamer and Shadow multiverse using a simplified diceless rule system. Character creation consists of determining name, description, and one thing the PC is great at, two things they are good at, one thing they are bad at, and an idea for an adventure they'd like to have. The kids are from our Earth; if they choose to be good at things that don't exist here (like magic), then they will not start the game knowing them, but will be fast learners. All PCs will have the LoGaS Warden power that controls travel between worlds.

Contacting the GM ahead of time would be great, but probably isn't strictly necessary.

Black Chamber: the Keystone

Slot 7

The world is a fragile place. We don't like to think about it; we make plans for days, months, or years in advance, pretending the world will be unchanged when we get there. We have children, assuming they'll live in a world like the one we live in now. We plan for retirement, even when it's 30 years out.

But the world does change. And sometimes, it does so drastically, violently, and suddenly. This is a CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN scenario the likes of which the Chamber has never seen before - and that's even after what happened in Colorado...

========================================
Setting is inspired by the Laundry Series of novels by Charles Stross, which mix Lovecraftian horror, spy thrillers, and absurd workplace situations. The Laundry is the not-quite-official government agency dealing with occult threats in the UK; the Black Chamber serves a similar purpose but for the US. This is one of a series of games by this GM; the games are independent but past players may return to play their characters. No past experience in the games is needed, however you must have read at least one of the Laundry novels to have familiarity with the setting.

It's not necessary to be familiar with the Harry Potter series, though it will help if you're vaguely aware that some books were written about a boy at a magic school. ShadowWorld WWII

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 8

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world in May 1942, playing operators of a branch of the Special Operations Executive, Room 33. They are sent out to interrupt the nonstandard research and development efforts the Third Reich is performing: black magic, psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public.

The players are operators of the SOE, with magical, psionic gifts or mutations, sent on mission into occupied Europe. It is a serial campaign: a series of missions that can be played independently in an ongoing world setting. You don't need to do any preparation or play more than once, but the more you put in, the more you get out of it. Note that this setting shares game mechanics, but no cosmology, history, or anything else with the 'Mainline' ShadowWorld campaign.

The setting is the real world in spring 1942 with some changes (all due to player character actions): the Bismarck wasn't sunk and is now hidden with her sister ship the Tirpitz, and the two battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in the Norwegian fjords, but more importantly, the leadership of Germany and Italy were massively changed:

  • In February, 1942 Hess and Himmler were killed.
  • In early April, 1942 Hitler, Von Ribbentropp, Mussolini, and Galeazzo Ciano were killed.
  • In late April, 1942 Heydrich took over as Führer and had Goering, Bormann, and Canaris killed.
  • On April 30, 1942 Heydrich and the assembled top of the SS were killed.

(Mis)guided by the advice of Aleister Crowley, consultant on mystical matters to the SOE, a team manipulated events to put Erwin Rommel in place as the new Führer.

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld WWII involves many adult themes.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

We will splurge remaining food vouchers, money and all to conduct the traditional chicken armageddon sometime mid game.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact the GM (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) before the con with enough of a character concept (see below) to create a character from. If the kindly GM does not get a character concept by the weekend before the Con, you won't be able to play. You can play any character with a background, skills, et-cetera, that makes you suitable to be recruited by the SOE, an English organization (e.g. resistance, intelligence, military, et-cetera). You must be able to pass for a German in the more selective of its armed forces (e.g. blue-eyed, blond-haired, physically well), and not only speak German like a native, but have an understanding and appreciation for Germany and its culture (e.g. exchange student, German nanny, et-cetera). Your character will have one or more psionic powers or mutations. If you're familiar with the ShadowWorld system, these are looser and can be more mystically oriented, and you have 4 points (i.e. 10 orders less powerful than ShadowWorld Mainline characters).
