Ghosts of New York

Tara Kunkel
Slot
Slot 1

For thousands of years, spirits have inhabited the Island of Manhattan. Over time, they have formed their own society and way of unlife. Things were comfortable. Then came 1984... first there was an immigration explosion, then the dreaded so-called Ghostbusters started taking prisoners. It is not a good time to be one of the Ghosts of New York.

This game will take a look at the flip side of the popular 1984 movie Ghostbusters. Players will be playing the Ghosts. No knowledge of the movie is necessary. Just come and have fun!

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

ShadowWorld Mainline (Thursday Night)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 1

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world, except that, under the facade of media, politics, political correctnes and 'reality' there is a ShadowWorld where strange things happen: psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public. The players are psionically gifted operators of a secret organization sent on a mission. Though an ongoing world setting, it is an episodic campaign: new players are welcome.

The real world in the current day, with a few changes (e.g. Quebec, Ontario the provinces east of it became a country and, with Cuba, Ecuador and Vanuatu, formed a Commonwealth). To the public there is more terrorist acts, more military action, and, recently, more weird events (e.g. Jupiter ignited into a star, astronomers claim we skipped ahead a day in Earth's orbit, Scotland got covered in ancient forests and physically became larger, the Ark of the Covenant was found).

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld involves many adult themes, in particular, if you take (your) religion seriously, playing ShadowWorld likely is not for you.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
If you don't have an existing character that you will play again, contact the GM by email (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) with at least a vague idea for an outline of a concept. You can play any character with regards to background, skills, etcetera, as long as your background makes you suitable to be recruited by a US-based organization. Your character will have one or more psionic powers, have some mystical nature, or both.

At Her Majesty's Pleasure

Kit Kindred
Slot
Slot 2

"Men will die," she said.

"That's the way it is in war. Sometimes you have no choice."

"But we do have a choice, of sorts," she said, "one that I don't understand. And I do want to understand it before I give an order that will result in numerous deaths."  -Vialle and Merlin, Sign of Chaos

Vialle, Queen of Amber, though blind, sees things even the great princes and princesses of Amber do not. She sees into the hearts of those around her and sees their true character. She sees portents that others are blind to.  When she sees something that troubles her, that threatens Amber and its people, she calls on you, her most trusted advisors and agents to investigate and act on her behalf.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Email GM ASAP at kitkindred@gmail.com for character creation or to request a pregen.

Characters are Queen Vialle’s most trusted advisors and agents. They are personally selected and chosen by the Queen for what she sees in their hearts. She may select a weir whose only failure was not dying with her king. She may select a minor noble with poor reputation and limited prospects. She may select a discharged ranger in search of redemption. They are not always those the King, the royal family, or the court would most desire. But, they are hers and they love her and would be their best selves for her. They serve, at her majesty's pleasure.

Cat Game

Joe Saul
Slot
Slot 2

Your characters are cats, living with their humans in a superficially peaceful suburban neighborhood. But they are also heroes, defending their humans, fellow cats, and the rest of the world (or at least their part of it) from EVIL THINGS. If they can somehow get out of the house...

Setting: A lovely tree-lined neighborhood on the West side of Ann Arbor, Michigan -- frequent finalist in "Best Places to Live in the US" but always loses points for expensive housing, road quality, and football traffic. Of course, if you're a cat, you don't care about any of that as long as you're fed, have a warm place to sleep, the crows don't steal your food, and the damn demons would QUIT TRYING TO EAT YOUR HUMANS' SOULS.

This game borrows heavily enough from John Wick's "Cat" that I want to acknowledge the debt, but it isn't a straight use of the rules or setting.

IF YOU PLAYED IN THIS GAME AT ACNW, do not sign up for this one. Content will repeat.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Pregenerated characters will be supplied at the game. No prior homework is required. I guess if you don't know what a cat is, you may want to look them up. I hear there may be some photos on the Internet.

Slot
Slot 2

Year 23 of a 5 year campaign. I can’t count I guess.

Just a few things going on. They found the bodies of 17 missing people in a nasty, swampy place. [I swear the players are going to have to put Lojacks on everyone the way the NPCs keep disappearing. Maybe I could make one of them disappear?] The 17 were missing their personas, not their souls. They also found 18 jars which contained something of each of the powers . . . and possibly something else, but one was empty. Saving everyone, they all went to Ithaca, to relax and compare notes. They were told there was probably a way to get all the pieces of the 18th construct pulled together, but it would probably take a bit of all the powers to work. There’s still a God to be found and some avatars to show up.

Infinite Amber: Fighting Back

J.P. Brannan
Slot
Slot 2

Amber: eternal; the city without an end. After the adventures of Corwin and Merlin, it was no longer believed to be the center of the universe. Instead it is one pole of reality. War and rivalries have reshaped the universe. Kings Random and Merlin sit on the thrones of Amber and Chaos. Random's Amber will call upon all the resources at its disposal to preserve and reassert Amber's primacy. Those resources include you, his nieces and nephews, the latest generation of Amber's growing royal family. Together you'll face a threat unlike many Amber has faced before...

With Corwin's created Realm of Paris spread across the lifeless void between worlds, worlds not meant to touch now collide. Random has recently taken back control of Amber, and Amber's royal family may have discovered ways to use their Pattern to seize an advantage in the ongoing conflict.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Characters will be King Random's nieces and nephews. An alternative rule set will be used for "Infinite Amber", which will is available online at https://brannan.jp/mw/index.php?title=Infinite_Amber

The GM will contact players to help with character generation prior to the convention. (For people already familiar with this: we'll be using the Infinite Amber version 2.4 rules, a simplified revision of rules that have been played at other conventions.) Shadow Trek: Borg Free

Rain Donaldson
Slot
Slot 2

Deep Shadow, the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Shadowship Ghostwheel. Our ongoing mission to explore strange new Shadows, to seek out new Powers and new Sentiences, and to boldly go where no Amberite has gone before.

Inspired by the Star Trek TV show, Ghostwheel has recruited a number of exceptional individuals from Amber, Thelbane, and Shadow to help him explore regions of Deep Shadow far from Amber and Chaos. Series has played once at Amber Central and once at Ambercon Northwest. Second time at ACUS. Individual sessions will feature unique self contained stories although some developments may carry over from session to session.

Setting is Deep Shadow- Worlds so far from Amber that it would take centuries to walk there through Shadow. The Shadowship Ghostwheel brings a crew of volunteers to these Shadows. Ghostwheel provides a few suggestions of worlds that might be worth a closer look. PCs may choose from the options provided or request that Ghostwheel search for something of their choosing. This is an Amber Game with a strong Star Trek flavor inspired by a now defunct Amber campaign run by Cathy Klessig. New and returning players welcome.

So it turns out that Sand, the long lost, was mucking about in dreams even in Deep Shadow. She agreed to leave, but not before altering a Shadow to create a lot of Borg which a PC promptly 'freed' from the collective thus turning a large unified problem into a vast splintered set of problems. This may have repercussions. Sand may have left other presents. The PCs may decide to ignore all that and do something else. I don't know.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Submit a 100 point ADRPG character at least two weeks before the con. Amberites, Chaosians, or exceptional Shadows are all ok. Gm may ask questions to clarify background, motivation, and interests. Players may send a detailed description of their desired character and have the GM assign points instead. Phasers, Communicators, Tricorders, Shuttles, Transporter, Replicator, Holodeck, and the Shadowship Ghostwheel do not cost character points. Familiarity with Amber isn't necessary to play. Familiarity with Star Trek isn't necessary to play, but hasn't everyone at the con seen at least one episode of Star Trek?

Star Trek: A Doomsday Like Any Other

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 2

It was a dull patrol. The officers and crew of the USS Saratoga were tired of the routine, tired of watching an empty frontier. Then, a call for help put the Saratoga face-to-face with the most implacable foe ever faced by Starfleet.
As if that weren't enough, the Saratoga had to contend with panicky civilians, selfish VIPs, interfering Romulans, and a colorful rogue whose surprising cargo might hold the only hope of stopping the planet-crushing juggernaut.
It would be a day they would all remember... but it certainly wouldn't be A Doomsday Like Any Other.

This is an adaption of the classic FASA Star Trek module to the Key RPG System. Pregens will be provided.

Slot 3

You've maybe done some things you're not proud of... Or failed to do things you can be proud of. But somehow, as you łook around at the state of the world, you think: maybe I can change that.

This is a game of weary Amber-multiverse people of power, building something together. For atmosphere, think Captain America and Black Widow, post-snap... But there was no cataclysm in this traditional post-Merlin multiverse, other than Patternfall and the usual nonsense out of Thelbane.

You're a group that came together for another reason: Habitat for Demonity? Someone talked up their idea for a traveling theater troupe glowingly enough? D&D? (Be ready to email before the con if it deeply matters to you!) In the talks over drinks afterwards, though, as you grew closer, you decided to take a collective stab at goodness.

I'll run a modified Pit of Vipers, to help put meaning behind character links, at the start of the slot.

Cyberpunk 2020: Night City Blues

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 3

The future has imploded into the present and 2020 is now a grim reality for Night City. The Corporations control the world from their skyscraper fortresses, enforcing their rule with armies of cyborg assassins. On the Street, Boostergangs roam a shattered urban wilderness, killing and looting. The rest of the world is a perpetual party, as fashion-model beautiful techies rub biosculpt jobs with battle armored roadwarriors in the hottest clubs, sleaziest bars and meanest streets this side of the Postholocaust. The Future never looked so bad.

But you can change it. You've got interface plugs in your wrists, weapons in your arms, lasers in your eyes, bio-chip programs screaming in your brain. You're wired in, cyberenhanced and solid state as you can take it to the fatal Edge where only the bravest officers of the Night City PD are willing to go. Everyday you risk your life because you're a CYBERCOP in the worst city in America.

Play cops in the nightmare vision of 1990's RPG Classic, Cyberpunk 2020. We'll use the Key RPG rules but 1990's futuristic style and vision. Shiny and chrome!

Characters will be some of the more cybernetically enhanced on the force. If you ain't a crooked cop in Night City, you're gonna need all the help you can get.

Slot
Slot 3

Are you on the Global Frequency? What is the Global Frequency? Some call it an Urban Myth, some say it’s a Faerie Tale and some call it a world conspiracy. What it is, is a worldwide independent intelligence organization, a rapid emergency response team and a private defense force all rolled into one. They deal with the threats that the world’s governments don’t want you to know about and can't handle themselves. They know trouble's coming before anyone else does. There are 1001 operatives on the Global Frequency, Intelligence Operatives, former Special Ops soldiers, ex-Cops, Scientists, Athletes. If you are an expert in your field, whatever it may be, you could be called on by the Global Frequency. You could be called on to save the world. Wait, hear that, that special ring-tone, you’d better answer it, they're calling you. You are on the Global Frequency.

Global Frequency is a game set in our world and our time. It is a gritty and messed up world, like ours is and you are its protectors. You are the agents of the Global Frequency called upon to stop a catastrophe or clean up the mess after one. Secretly and without fanfare. You handle the situations that no one else can.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Magical Customs

Eleanor Todd, Remington Todd, April Todd
Slot
Slot 3

U.A. Magical Customs and Immigration Service (MCIS) administers the nation's lawful immigration system as it pertains to magical entities and their dimensions of origin, safeguarding its integrity and promise by efficiently and fairly adjudicating requests for immigration benefits while protecting Americans, securing the homeland, and honoring our values.

U.A. MCIS is the nation’s largest paranormal law enforcement organization, charged with keeping problematic entities, their agents and their weapons out of United America while facilitating lawful inter-dimensional travel and trade. The staff of MCIS are responsible for enforcing hundreds of U.A. laws and regulations. On a typical day, MCIS welcomes more than ten thousand entities, screens more than 200 pocket dimensions, arrests numerous entities, and seizes nearly 6 tons of illicit magics.

Due to an increase of incoming volume and range, an additional 86 ports of entry opened in 2018, including your newly assigned duty station in Livonia, Michigan.

Security is currently heightened, due to the recent events at the Livionia and Gresham check points, the escalated tensions between the Court of Winter and the UA, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis of Trash Goblin refugees.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This is a freeform LARP, wherein you play an MCIS agent responsible for inspection of entrance papers of inter-dimensional entities and deciding which entities will or will not be allowed to enter.

The game explores the intersection of the magical and the mundane, the whimsical and the bureaucratic. It includes light satire of US immigration policy, but is not focused thereon. For example, the players are citizens of the fictional country “United America”, which includes the real world countries of Canada, Mexico and the United States.

No character pre-creation or other preparation is required, but business or business-casual attire for costuming is suggested.

Padawans of the Mountain Temple: Shadow of the Warlord

Michael McLawhorn
Slot
Slot 3

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
A world without Stars, and very few Wars. Deep in the Monsua Nebula, under an empty night sky is a forgotten world. It has been so long apart from galactic civilization that few there remember other worlds even exist.

The pacifist Nautolan Jedi Master Manju Suri exiled himself here rather than take up arms in the Clone Wars. He created the Mountain Temple, a spirtual retreat consecrated to nonviolence, contemplation, and the perfection of physical movement. In time, seekers who felt a calling in the spiritual energy called the Force of Heaven and Earth were drawn to him, seeking his teachings. Certain gifted orphans he adopted as and raised as disciples, sending them out as pilgrims and emissaries of compassion, insight, and protection. They were counselors, defenders of the weak, healers, engineers, and seekers of knowledge.

You and your siblings are those Padawan monks, returning home for the Festival Season...where a tragic discovery awaits you...

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
The game will be played using a slightly modified version of Fate RPG rules, similar to the one used in last year's "Wreck of the Hyperion" adventure.

Players will be expected to work with each other to create characters with shared histories and connections. The core mood of the game is a mashup of Wuxia and Star Wars lore. Each PC should be a different flavor of Force Sensitive.

Rules and character creation guidance will be forthcoming.

Dying in the Past

Mike Manolakes
Slot
Slot 4

You are a Traveler, one of twelve individuals who possess the most powerful object on Earth -- the timeband. Travelers can control time: slow time down, stop it, or travel to any era to rewrite history. Some Travelers are your allies. Others are your deadly enemies. All are engaged in a struggle spanning many centuries to prevent -- or achieve -- the destiny of mankind known as Variation Seven.

"Dying in the Past" is my adaptation, in game form, of my science fiction novel of the same name, the fourth book in a series that follows "Variation Seven", "Strange Times", and "Living in the Future". I will be using the character generation system and game setting that I used at previous Ambercons beginning with "Variation Seven"; however, "Dying in the Past" is a stand-alone adventure, and no knowledge of the previous episodes is required. If you played in "Variation Seven" at Ambercon 2016, "Strange Times" at Ambercon 2018, or "Living in the Future" at Ambercon 2019, you are welcome to use the same character or create a new one.

Player-characters will be individuals who have come into possession of a timeband and can be from any era in history, real or alternate. Rules for character generation will be sent out prior to the con, and characters should be submitted prior to the con.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Nine Personas of Amber

Zack Kunkel & Nicole Hambleton
Slot
Slot 4

"We're here to take your heart!"

Unleash your spirit of rebellion and break the chains that bind you, and unleash your Persona to set destroy the shadows that twist the world around you with the power of their distorted desires.

This game is a cross over of sorts between "The Chronicles of Amber" and the video game (and other media series) Persona, drawing from both Franchises. Knowledge of either property is not required to play or enjoy this game. Players will take on the role of ordinary individuals whose repressed and battered emotions give birth to Personas, powerful beings born from their inner-most being, and use that power to enter twisted shadows of the world they know and root out the source of distortion to bring some justice and reform to society, and try to learn more about the game their "contract" has seen them conscripted into. This game is a first at this convention and is not a series at this time, though it could become one if there is interest.

The Persona series often deals with complicated and dark topics such as death, abuse, suicide, homelessness, poverty, and depression, and these themes may be present in this game. Please feel free to contact the game masters if you are concerned about troubling topics, as we want this to be a fun and safe environment for all players.

Please feel free to email zack.c.kunkel@gmail.com with any questions.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Players should design a character, typically an outcast or otherwise down trodden member of society who might carry a rebellious spirit. They will also design their Persona, which will have more elements of character building using a system derived from Amber Diceless. Becoming familiar with The Chronicles of Amber or Persona may be helpful to some Players, but is not necessary. Pre-generated characters are available upon request, and the game masters welcome questions or ideas on this creative process

Slot 4

Dire misfortune falls upon the Olde Miskatonic University and Dean Chattel begs the help of the Family Elders. Of course, whenever Evil seeks to thwart Nobility, the Family shall respond. The Elders have contacted you out among the Shattered Limbs of the World Tree and dispatched you to serve the Family Honor. Help the Dean and put things aright.

'Laeti vescimur nos subacturis'   (We gladly feast upon those who would subdue us)

This is a game of Dark Wit, Dashing Style, and Romance. You play a young Addams with the Flaw guiding you in an adverse infinity of Shattered Limbs. The PCs are all Cousins/Sibs who respect Passion and Family.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Build your PC for 50 points, use the Lords of Gossamer and Shadow ruleset. Player PCs not approved by the GM at least 2 weeks before Ambercon will be given 40 point Pregen PCs at the Convention game. PCs have the Flaw, one Passion, and Ooky Theme for no points.

The Flaw! (broken Pattern in this game comes with 5pts Bad Stuff. Players may choose to buy up to Zero Stuff with their points)
Ooky! (visualize your PC around a monsterix or aberration of mundane human myths--there are minor narrative sfx the GM shall assign with Ooky)
Passion! (Addams are known for their Passions, these inspirations add a rank to your Attributes in narrow situations. Examples:  Dangerous Plants, Swordplay, Poisons, Explosives, Law, Finance, Graveyards, MadScience, Spouse, Child, Lover, Muse, etcetera! You get the idea.

You may purchase added Passions for 2 points each. Passions should lean into a single Attribute (Endurance/Psyche/Strength/Warfare). Therefore Explosives/Endurance and Explosives/Warfare are two distinct Passions.

ShadowWorld Mainline (Friday Night)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 4

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Strange happenings in Amber city have come to the attention of the crown. Are they worth the attention of the crown? That is to be determined; maybe, by you.

This game takes place after the Merlin books. Random rules in Amber; Merlin reigns in the Courts and all is well and stable in the multi-verse. Or is it?

Ambercons should have Amber games and this is an old-fashion Shared World game that operates as a serial. Bring a favorite character who is welcome or, at least, tolerated in Amber. While points are limit to 200, a strong concept and a well known background are more important than the point count.

Terminus Rex: Desperate Measures

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 4

The world can never go back. When the first dimensional rifts were opened the world came under attack. Those initial invaders were defeated but the world learned that it would take more than the Liberty League to keep the world safe when otherworldly threats can slip into any city at any time.

Now, a way has been developed to create heroes capable of superhuman feats...but at a great cost. All those who take the Terminus Treatment have a limited number of days left. The powers will literally kill you. At most, you may have three years but most likely you will live less. Use of your powers will increase your decline.

You are doomed to die. What will you make of this time? What legacy will you leave?

Terminus Rex is a new superhero setting utilizing the KEY RPG system. Characters in Terminus Rex games can carry over in future Terminus Rex games (that will be run at future Ambercons and U-Con in Ypsilanti).....as long as the character lives. Will you conserve your life by trying to limit the use of your powers or will you burn out fast and bright?

Though Much is Taken, Much Abides: Conspiracies and Confrontation

J.P. Brannan
Slot
Slot 4

Amber is made weak by time and fate, but is still strong in will. Twenty years ago a new King, Random, returned victorious from the Patternfall War fought in the Courts of Chaos. The Epoch of Oberon had ended, and Eric's attempt to ignite a new age of glory had already died in ashes when it had scarcely begun. The King found he had inherited a kingdom cut off from its trading partners, depleted by war, and only kept afloat in the intervening years by the heroic efforts of Prince Regent Gerard. Now you are younger members of the royal family in service to the throne, working not only to preserve and defend Amber, but to create the Amber of the future. Diplomats, soldiers, traders, courtiers, and provocateurs, you must be proud, bold, pleasant, resolute, and now and then stab, as occasion serves. Random's worked hard to rebuild what he can of the Golden Circle military and trade alliance. It's hard to rebuild something that took Oberon centuries to build, and those who remember Amber before the war whisper that Amber hasn't regained the full measure of its former glory.

In this episode: Sinister forces have been at work behind the scenes in Amber and elsewhere. A trail of clues may lead our Lord and Ladies of Amber to the conspirators, or into the fight of their lives;

And All Of Our Yesterdays Have Lighted Fools, Part 17

Rae H. Williams
Slot
Slot 5

I'm not out of Shakespeare plays yet.

Although this is a series, each game is a separate story.  Returning players have a bit of the history as part of the game, but it is not necessary to know the story.  Each part of this series is based on a different Shakespeare play. You don’t have to be an aficianado of the Bard to enjoy the game.  The main points were: Random, Dworkin, Oberon, and Moire are dead.  Eric was found in a  monastery somewhere, not dead; and he and Bleys are regents in Amber.  Martin is married to a Hellmaid and there is a construct that took over for Eric and Ghostwheel running the universe.  Oh, and there are 3 Caines, 3 Julians, and 3 Gérards running around.  Or has it all changed? There was some time travel 2 years ago to save a marriage and life, and a message left for a future Fiona, which resulted in a very different version of Dworkin leading an army against Amber. The resulting battle ended with him shouting, “A horse, A horse. My kingdom for a horse.” What’s next for this universe? Sign up and we’ll find out. If you sign up, I'll give you the link to the wiki for more info.

Each part of this series is based on a different Shakespeare play. You don’t have to be an aficianado to enjoy the game. Part 1 was based on "MacBeth." Part 2 was "The Merchant of Venice." Part 3 was "The Comedy of Errors." Part 4 was "Romeo And Juliet." Part 5 was "As You Like It." Part 6 was “King John.” Part 7 was “Henry VI, Part 2.” Part 8 was “All’s Well That Ends Well.” Part 9 was "Measure For Measure." Part 10 was “Henry VIII.” Part 11 was “The Tempest.” Part 12 was “Henry VI, Part 1” Part 13 was “Julius Caesar”. Part 14 was “Loves Labours Lost”. Part 15 was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Part 16 was “Richard III”. Part 17 will be based on another Shakespeare play, but you'll have to guess which.

Audiences in Gold

Justin Parsler
Slot
Slot 5

This game will take part in the Audiences alternate Amber run by Justin, Joe and Simone, which began at ACNW in 2019.

The game is intended for new characters only.

This game is part of the Audiences Amber setting, first run at Ambercon NW in 2019 by Justin, Joe and Simone. This session is self-contained and aimed exclusively at new players. You might play again in the same setting, you might not.

The Audiences setting is recognisably Amber, but Elder personalities, as well as the metaphysics have been changed such that it becomes a game focussed on social and mystical exploration. It is not intended as a PvP game.

After a long and arduous war between the realms of the Golden Circle and Amber a tentative peace was reached, but then Amber city was albeit destroyed and the Circle rose up in war again, a war caused by a mystic curse and a crown, or so the rumour goes.

Players will be taking on the role of Golden Circle denizens, but of Amber blood, recently rounded up and imprisoned together as traitors. Events will unfold from there, with an action and politics focus.

Hopefully I can flower up the prose before it goes out to players?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
The game uses a bespoke character generation system which will need to be done via email in advance. There is some background to read. None of this is hugely onerous and it is all pretty simple and brief.

Blade Runner 2020: Tears in the Rain

The people of Earth survive the pollution and radioactive legacies of the excesses late twentieth century, barely. But living animals are scarce, and humans continue to succumb to degenerative physical and mental conditions from exposure, becoming rated as 'Special', making it illegal for them to emigrate off world or to bear children. Those with health, money, and good sense have embraced the opportunities to of the Off World Colonies, where synthetic biological humanoids, replicants, serve their needs, taking on the jobs that humans are not strong enough, durable enough or are too proud to perform.

Six months ago, in Los Angeles, in fall of 2019, six Nexus Six model replicants returned to Earth to confront their creator, the billionaire and genius scientist Eldon Tyrell. His murder, as well as the murder of the reclusive designer J. F. Sebastian at the hands of his own product resulted in the Earth government completely suspending Tyrell corporation production for the last six months. Replicant slave labor for dangerous and menial services is crucial to the ongoing survival of the Off World Colonies, and the built in four year lifespan for Tyrell replicants has created a nearly catastrophic disruption to the supply chain keeping mankind's remote redoubts calm and carrying on.

Our story finds its characters on April 2020, living and working in the broad stretch of usable land outside the crater of Old Detroit. This is a story about people trying to survive or thrive or perhaps just sustain their own suffering a little while longer in a world succumbing to the post apocalyptic kipple. Perhaps you're a former Blade Runner, sinking into alcoholism and regret. Perhaps an escaped Replicant, hiding out in a humble life. Perhaps a corporate scientist, trying to find a way quick money to get a ticket off this dying rock. Perhaps you're an entertainer, wrestling some joy out of a fading world, or a Special with some modest job, trying to find happiness or purpose in a world which pities you.

Once the Glorious Pendrad was the Crafting the UnderGods feared, and too long they have forgotten who built the Pendrad. We call You of all Bloods together, for a Memory returned. Young Immortals are pretty, but not the prettiest or most wicked. For they are not Fae.

At the edge of the Latin Quarter, where Chinatown and Little Bavaria rub shoulders, there is a district of This City that only magicians and shapeshifters - and mortals in the worst kind of trouble - seem to find.  You are here to mark the passing of one of your own... starting with pouring out a bit of liquor and likely escalating to some form of violent revenge.

Target:AMBER

Slot
Slot 5

This time, this place (well, sorta, there were a few minor changes). You are elite soldiers from militaries around the world, and attached specialist and even civilians, in a black ops program dealing with invasion of Earth by non-humans, the TARGETS. The Colonels' Council running the program generates missions ranging from reconnaissance of parallel worlds reachable through the tunnel system, to support and expansion of off-world bases and even a proto-colony, in case Earth falls. This is current day Earth, sort of. This is Amber, sort of. Target:AMBER grew out of Patrick Brady at AmberCon UK running a one-shot (which became a 9 year campaign that ended half a decade ago) musing on the casual strength and resilience of Amberites described in the first books, and consider what the whole package would be, in speed, reaction speed, senses. Consider dogs that can run down a Mercedes and tear pieces off of it, and think what it would mean to face a pack of those, as a mere mortal, with Earth arms and armor. Consider how many Amberites have visited Earth over the years, and how they play games. This starts on Earth as we know it, but a bit different. The multiverse after the first five books, and then some. This is Target:AMBER V2. It is not a spin-off, not a reboot, this is a continuation of Target: AMBER, as run by Patrick Brady at AmberCon UK, and the spinoff set in the same universe run by Tim Hart at Ambercon NorthWest. What more can I tell you?

Chronicles of Ember

"I looked down at the great City of Ember and reflected. I was born a millennia after the age of Strife. I was not there when the forces of Amber clashed with the Courts of Chaos but the scars of that great war could still be seen in the worlds of shadow. Bottomless chasms or rifts in space all leading to the Abyss for anyone dumb enough to plum their depths.....and here in Ember the uneasy alliance of the survivors of the great cataclysm could be seen in the architecture. The districts seemed designed to protect themselves against each other. Was it likely that the great houses would betray each other. No. We all knew that without the Worldforge and the combined powers that fueled it, we would all be plunged into the Abyss. The Abyss had a taste of our realities during the cataclysm and it hungered for more. Those great chasms and scars did more to keep the peace than my father ever could since they stood as warning of what awaited us if our alliance dissolved." -Excerpt from the diary of Prince Ion of House Emerald.

This series is set in an Alternate Amber and uses an adaption of the Key RPG System. Characters will be created by email before the con. The player characters will all be from house descended from Amber but may have powers of Pattern or Logrus. CODE NAME: OZYMANDIUS -- A World in a Grain of Sand

Simone Cooper
Slot
Slot 6

A new mission from the mysterious OZYMANDIUS for members of Earth's team of elite Path Masters, stationed on Cynosure:
For all of time, the births and deaths of Shadow Realms, however catastrophic, took place anonymously and mostly unmourned, hushed by the silence of the Veils between worlds. Now that the Veils are thin, and the Paths are open to any with the eyes to see, what happens when catastrophe strikes?

This is an episodic game open to new team members at any time.

CHARACTERS:
We are a team of Path Masters from Earth--what we now know is one of many Earths. As Path Masters, we can spot and traverse Shadow Paths. For the past year we have lived and worked in the crossroads city of Cynosure for many reasons: recon, adventure, employment, to save our home. Over that time, we have heard rumors of a mysterious employer, one who demands incredible commitment from their people, but who also provides incredible rewards: access to Jewel Ghosts; horses of Arden; weapons of allShadow; passkeys to the locked Realms of Faerie.

After many successful independent missions, we received Cynosure's fabled golden ticket, an invitation to the back room of Munden's Bar, and an interview is with the independent agent code-named OZYMANDIUS. Apparently we were successful enough that our benefactor has called on us again ....

SETTINGS:
Cynosure: the shattered mirror of the Keep of Four Worlds, a crossroads of the many ShadowPaths. It is a hundred years after Patternfall and decades after the Veils fell from our eyes ... [Setting based on the GRIMJACK comics. Player knowledge of the comics not necessary but can be fun.]

Amber: the rose of creation, faded now that the shaping hands of the Pattern have lost their strength, but still considered the Father of all Shadow--a father who may yet be jealous of his lost power.

Chaos: a scattered but wealthy collection of realms well-positioned to take advantage of the changes wrought when the Pattern lost its sway, a hive of "scum and villainy," heroism, beauty, and danger.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Returning players may use a character they've already made for the game, or I will send pre-generated character skill packages to balance the group. We will discuss the state of Earth's Cynosure Outpost and get an idea of why making a big score now is important to you, and what your team might seek from OZYMANDIUS as its reward.

It's the height of the Roaring Twenties, and Mrs. Rittenhouse has invited you to a gala weekend-long party at her mansion, to honor Captain Geoffrey T. Spaulding's recent return from his exploration of Africa. If that sounds familiar, it's the premise of Animal Crackers. Don't worry, we'll deviate from the Marx Brothers about five minutes into the game, when Captain Spaulding is found murdered. All of you have secrets to hide, so it's up to you to figure out who killed him and why, before the detectives show up and start digging into everyone's secrets. [While the setting is the same as the HfCS games run at other cons, the players make the plot. If you've played this before, you can still safely play it here and not know Whodunnit. Until characters are submitted, even the GM doesn't know what the secrets are or who actually murdered Spaulding.]

Shadow Earth, in the 1920s. While the base setting is taken from a slapstick movie, you do not have to be familiar with the movie, and the game itself is not slapstick so you may play a serious character if you wish.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact alrobins@gmail.com with character information. We'll be using the paragraph system, in which you tell me a paragraph (or more, if you wish) about your character. You must have at least one secret that would ruin you if it were publicly revealed, and you should have run into Captain Spaulding at some point in the past. Your secret can involve the Captain, but it doesn't have to. Players are encouraged to create back-stories with each other, preferably back-stories that provide motives or opportunities for blackmail.

Love in the Time of Plague (7th Sea)

CJ
Slot
Slot 6

The place: Theah. The time: 1666. The White Plague ravages the land, towns barricade themselves in quarantine and ruthlessly purge any signs of contamination from within. But there are rumors of a cure, a Syrneth mystery, hidden in a Numan ruin. Alas, the powers of Vodacce are not keen on outsiders at the best of times, and now they've become downright unpleasant about them. Can a band of certified Explorers discover the solution to the mysterious plague and stay alive? Odds are pretty good; this is 7th Sea, not Call of Cthulhu.

(As may be obvious by all the jargon, players who have a familiarity with the 7th Sea world may find this easier than those without, but I will bring you up to speed if need be.)

ShadowWorld: Crime Leagues

Rob Haight
Slot
Slot 6

This serial campaign is set on Earth in the 1950s, an alternate timeline where psionics exist and most psionics for various reasons turn to a life of crime. Characters are drawn into a newly established criminal syndicate to use their wits, cunning, powers and brute force in the transformational years where old world orders are crumbling with money and power to be had in plenty for those who can take it. Note: This game has the potential to turn historic and religious events upside-down. Players who have difficulty separating their personal cultural or religious beliefs from those of their characters may find elements of this game disturbing and may wish to look elsewhere.

Psionic ability is not a heritage of the privileged unless they have gone off to war or suffered terrible misfortune. It is much more common among the poorest classes struggling for survival. However psionic abilities remain largely unknown to the general population. Science pokes and prods at the concepts of psionics, but because few people come forward claiming psionic ability and because scientists have been unable to bring people to the breaking points where psionic abilities emerge. Psionics are often drawn into the underworld because they have grown up on the street and their abilities give them a chance at a step up in life, they are combat veterans looking to stay in the profession or variously find that what they seek in life is not to be found in more reputable occupations and lifestyles

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Star Wars: Flight of the Fallen

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 6

In 1977 George Lucas released Star Wars, the first in his trilogy of science fiction movies. In that trilogy, he hinted at a lot of back story for the universe and there was talk about creating a series of prequels that would fill in the details of the Clone Wars and how Darth Vader and the Emperor rose to power. We never saw those prequels....

The Clone Wars are over, but a new threat befalls the Jedi. Imperial forces have begun attacks on Jedi temples throughout the sector just as the Emperor reveals his new ally: the Sith lord known as Darth Vader.

This series is a "first series purist" game. Only events in the original trilogy are considered canon. New players are welcome. Each scenario stands on its own. Returning players will have additional XP to spend on their character. Characters can be Jedi, soldiers, charming rogues or anything else that could have fit in the original movie trilogy.

Strahd Must Die Tonight!

Zack Kunkel & Nicole Hambleton
Slot
Slot 6

In the miserable land of Barovia, the vampire often called simply "The Devil," Lord Strahd Von Zarovich has ruled for countless generations, and has spent that time carefully laying plans and schemes to thwart any would be adventurers and crush their hopes, and only afterward would he be bothered to crush their bodies, and spare only their spirits, to linger on for eternity, bound forever to wallow in the mists. He is the dark. He is the land. He is the ancient, and he has had all time to prepare.

And you, with no plan, nor resources, nor allies, have only until the stroke of Midnight, before the horror of Strahd grows into something twisted, alien, and utterly unstoppable.

This is a one-shot game based heavily on the Ravenloft setting from Dungeons and Dragons, notable for its use of many Gothic Horror elements and tropes, most famously the Gothic castle of Ravenloft as the titular dungeon and the infamous vampire lord, Strahd, who serves as the focal point of this adventure. Players will race against the clock to find and stop Strahd as he grows more dangerous with every passing hour, until midnight when their fate, and that of Barovia, will be decided, one way or another.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Game will be a "lite" version of traditional D&D, drawing on its mechanics for inspiration and resources, rather than for the actual stats and dice rolling. Players are expected to have some idea for a personality and design of a character, but the bones for any character stats or abilities that are needed will be provided. Players are welcome to develop backstories but they are not needed as this is a strictly one shot campaign that will begin and end in the Castle of Ravenloft.

All-Star Squadron Against the Unseen Invasion

Mike Manolakes
Slot
Slot 7

In the darkest hours of World War II, a band of mighty mystery men and women came together to defend this nation's home front. At the request of President Franklin Roosevelt, the heroes of the Justice Society of America, the Seven Soldiers of Victory, the Freedom Fighters, and other costumed champions combine to form a united force to defeat America's enemies -- a force known as the All-Star Squadron! But now, a new challenge arises, a threat more powerful than any they have yet faced, an insidious and unseen invasion from beyond the known realms of man.

"All-Star Squadron Against the Unseen Invasion" is based on DC Comics characters that appeared in the All-Star Squadron series, which included all DC Golden Age heroes of the 1940's (as well as some newer creations). Players will play one of the established All-Stars or create a new hero belonging to that same genre. Detailed character selection/creation information, as well as the rules for diceless super-hero gaming, will be sent prior to the con.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Audiences in the Ruins

Justin Parsler and Joe Saul
Slot
Slot 7

This game is aimed at characters who have previously played an event, either at ACNW or earlier in ACUS.

This game is part of the Audiences Amber setting, first run at Ambercon NW in 2019 by Justin, Joe and Simone. This session is primarily aimed at existing players, whether from ACNW or the Audiences game run earlier at this convention. However, there is plenty of space for new players in this session also, and some character options to play with that were not previously available.

The Audiences setting is recognisably Amber, but Elder personalities, as well as the metaphysics have been changed such that it becomes a game focussed on social and mystical exploration. It is not intended as a PvP game.

Amber City is in ruins, the city depopulated, the castle albut uninhabited. This will be a fairly gentle, thoughtful and social game focussing on the rebuilding efforts, family tensions and interesting choices that will be fundamental to the way the Audiences setting develops.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
The game uses a bespoke character generation system which will need to be done via email in advance. There is some background to read. None of this is hugely onerous and it is all pretty simple and brief.

Neverhere: New York’s Not My Home

“Been in so many places

You know I've run so many races

And looked into the empty faces of the people of the night

And something is just not right.

Though all the subways are crowded

There's something strange about it

I lived above about a year and I never once felt at home.”

If you’ve read or seen "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman, the idea starts there. You don’t have to know the story to play in the game though. The GM has never been to London, but has lived in New York. Last year I ran “Subways Of New York” as a sort of intro to this idea. Using the Neverhere setting, each year will have a different story, so you don’t have to have played a previous year. Explore the side, make that below side of New York with talents to help you get through and stay alive. Characters can be upsider, in-betweener, or downsider.

I will set up a wiki soon to point out some of the highlights of the underrealm.

Slot 7

Game will run late: I hope, and will work hard to, end by 5pm. It may run as late as 6pm. I hope to end the Mainline games at ACUS big.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
If you don't have an existing character that you will play again, contact the GM by email (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) with at least a vague idea for an outline of a concept. "The two of you? Against both Amber and the Courts of Chaos? What do you hope to achieve? How do you plan to further this notion of balance?"

"We are not alone," she said, "and the plan is not ours." -Random and Dara, The Courts of Chaos

The world outside your window is a lie.

It is nothing more than a shadow of reality.  The real world is ruled by squabbling, petty immortals that use the shadows as playthings in their games.  You and your world mean nothing to them. They use it and worlds like it as a battleground and use you as disposable pawns. And all the while, these games upset the delicate balance of reality and blind them to the true horrors that threaten all existence.

The Inbetwixters will set things right. They know the Truth. They will not fade away. They wage their subversive guerrilla war across all Shadow, and unto Amber and Chaos itself.

Rise up. Resist. Rebel.

ShadowWorld WWII

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 8

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world in August 1942, playing operators of a branch of the Special Operations Executive, Room 33. They are sent out to interrupt the nonstandard research and development efforts the Third Reich is performing: black magic, psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public.

The players are operators of the SOE, with magical, psionic gifts or mutations, sent on mission into occupied Europe. It is a serial campaign: a series of missions that can be played independently in an ongoing world setting. You don't need to do any preparation or play more than once, but the more you put in, the more you get out of it. Note that this setting shares game mechanics, but no cosmology, history, or anything else with the 'Mainline' ShadowWorld campaign.

The setting is the real world in August 1942 with some changes (all due to player character actions): the Bismarck wasn't sunk and is now hidden with her sister ship the Tirpitz, and the two battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in the Norwegian fjords, but more importantly, the leadership of Germany and Italy were massively changed:

  • In February, 1942 Hess and Himmler were killed.
  • In early April, 1942 Hitler, Von Ribbentropp, Mussolini, and Galeazzo Ciano were killed.
  • In late April, 1942 Heydrich took over as Führer and had Goering, Bormann, and Canaris killed.
  • On April 30, 1942 Heydrich and the assembled top of the SS were killed.

(Mis)guided by the advice of Aleister Crowley, consultant on mystical matters to the SOE, a team manipulated events to put Erwin Rommel in place as the new Führer.

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld WWII involves many adult themes.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

We will splurge remaining food vouchers, money and all to conduct the traditional chicken armageddon sometime mid game.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact the GM (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) before the con with enough of a character concept (see below) to create a character from. If the kindly GM does not get a character concept by the weekend before the Con, you won't be able to play. You can play any character with a background, skills, et-cetera, that makes you suitable to be recruited by the SOE, an English organization (e.g. resistance, intelligence, military, et-cetera). You must be able to pass for a German in the more selective of its armed forces (e.g. blue-eyed, blond-haired, physically well), and not only speak German like a native, but have an understanding and appreciation for Germany and its culture (e.g. exchange student, German nanny, et-cetera). Your character will have one or more psionic powers or mutations. If you're familiar with the ShadowWorld system, these are looser and can be more mystically oriented, and you have 4 points (i.e. 10 orders less powerful than ShadowWorld Mainline characters).
