Slot 1

A Lords of Gossamer and Shadow game, based around characters from a mutual shared gossamer world.

"Lords and Ladies of Gossamer, are quirky idiosyncratic things. They are not bound to blood line, or a musty ancestral throne for their power, but distinct and possessing individual drive and character so as to worthy in their own way of initiation into the greater mysteries of the long and winding stair. While there are 'Sovereigns' and even a 'Court' at Vala's Holding at Shatterlight, there are countess worlds but, only a finite number of Ladies and Lords of Gossamer."

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Character creation using base LGS rules and 100 points. Home World details will be finalized in a pregame creation conversation.
A common World creation is part of the character creation process.

What makes this world your character's home?
What ties does your character to your cohort?
What distinguishes your character to have reached a higher state of being?

Fiasco and Follow Fun!

Matt Andrews
Slot
Slot 1

Matt don't plot, so instead I'll facilitate playing Fiasco and Follow, two GMless games that generate their own plots!

Fiasco is modelled on things like Coen brothers movies (Fargo, Big Lebowski, Hail, Caesar!) where everything eventually goes wrong for pretty much everyone. It's a... well, you know.

Follow is a game of generating trope-y games in a variety of settings, and unlike Fiasco, there is a decent chance of a positive outcome.

Both games are narrative-based and light on rules; it mostly comes down to things like "X, set up a scene and say who's in it, Y, decide if this scene goes well or poorly", then everyone improvs from there. Warning! Dice are involved.

We can all decided which of the two we want to play, pick a playset and get going fairly quickly. It's possible that we'll have time to go through two games - both can go pretty quickly.

Gin, No Chaser

Jesse Scoble
Slot
Slot 1

The sand is chilled from the black of night, but an angry sliver of crimson glimmers along the horizon line. To the west, a scar of neon blocks out the stars. There are answers there. And trouble.

GIN, NO CHASER is a savage noir mystery that takes considerable influence from LAST CALL (Tim Powers) and ALAS, VEGAS (James Wallis). It won't play out the same, but if you know either intimately you might know too much. On the other hand, whatever happens in Sin City stays in Sin City, so maybe you'll make it out as a real winner-winner, and not just by the skin of your teeth.

NOTE: ALAS VEGAS's fugue system uses tarot cards quite heavily. I haven't quite figured out how or if I can use them virtually, but it may be a component of this game if that is important for you to know.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact me a bit in advance. Character creation will be ... fluid.

It's the modern world, with, perhaps, a few twists. But more shades of strange than out-and-out supernatural. Depending on how the cards turn up, of course.

Retribution's Orphans

Liz T
Slot
Slot 1

Amber’s thousand worthy families must play the game to stay in it and the Bayles played hard, becoming rich enough that Oberon put them on a tighter leash by ennobling grandfather Byron. That was long ago before anyone dreamed of a day Oberon would not rule in Amber.

The economic hardship that began with the intrusion of the dark tides didn’t improve when the war ended. Having been so favored during what they now call ‘Prince Eric’s Regency’ it had been a struggle to support the house without the Crown’s favor. The twenty years King Random has ruled in Amber have been harsh ones for the family. Even in the Golden Circle, it had fallen out of style to serve any of the refined products from Bayle. Changing logos helped but eventually the association was found and the most profitable segments slipped back in market share. The garbage wines sold everywhere, but diversification of product into medicinals and fuels hadn’t been enough to fill the gaps.

Prince Caine has been an ally through all and grandfather was certain without the prince, the Bayles would be in dire straits. This belief proved true when King Random expelled Prince Caine from Amber. Caine’s people, who do always seem to be everywhere, warned you to stay at sea and have a care. The prince expected his brother would dissolve Bayle, or worse.

There would never have been time to sail home, even with the best winds and clear shadow lanes. The royal guard arrested everyone who was at the estate, seized all the properties. They say Reginald and others were killed attempting to flee justice. Grandfather died in the dungeons before he’d even been brought up for trial.

They destroyed all the vineyards with fire. King Random declared Bayle dissolved. Any Bayle found in Amber or its allied states will be arrested.

Learning all this through the past month has been one shock after another. You’ve had to kill some of Caine’s (former?) agents who sought to bring you in for the bounty that has quietly been placed on your head. You know this will get worse. Being raised a merchant pragmatist you retreat to The Last Resort. There, the pirate branch of the family has operated under various banners for years. There will be assets, ships, weapons; hopefully cousins.

You’d known your grandfather was a schemer. It’s how he rose. Long before you were born, they’d fostered rumors about Queen Paulette vicious enough to incite her suicide. Grandfather would only mention it unsober; admitted only things ‘went too far’ and ‘never intended such a thing’. Your grandfather had been nervous about Random’s ascension, very worried that the ‘young king’ would hold ancient history against him. Seems like he might have prepared better for this eventuality

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
You will be playing the granddaughters of Baron Byron Bayle- Partial Pregenerated PC’s. Expect 30 mins of prep in email – more if you are wordy like the GM. I run using a modified Everway system, meaning we tell a story together and the GM uses cards as aids to the narrative at decision points. Our story will be about heroine-level humans reacting to changes wrought by forces beyond their control. This is an adult game with adult themes - You will have an opportunity to exclude or revise trauma in the backgrounds and set boundaries for in-game play. *Probably* not a happy go lucky pirate game. We are set 20-some years after Patternfall, in the 20th year of Random’s reign. Corwin made a new place during the war where he lives with a growing family. The dark forces from the war have been mostly quiet. “Chaos” is defeated.

ShadowWorld Mainline (Thursday Night)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 1

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world, except that, under the facade of media, politics, political correctnes and 'reality' there is a ShadowWorld where strange things happen: psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public. The players are psionically gifted operators of a secret organization sent on a mission. Though an ongoing world setting, it is an episodic campaign: new players are welcome.

The real world in the current day, with a few changes (e.g. Quebec, Ontario the provinces east of it became a country and, with Cuba, Ecuador and Vanuatu, formed a Commonwealth). To the public there is more terrorist acts, more military action, and, recently, more weird events (e.g. Jupiter ignited into a star, astronomers claim we skipped ahead a day in Earth's orbit, Scotland got covered in ancient forests and physically became larger, the Ark of the Covenant was found).

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld involves many adult themes, in particular, if you take (your) religion seriously, playing ShadowWorld likely is not for you.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
If you don't have an existing character that you will play again, contact the GM by email (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) with at least a vague idea for an outline of a concept. You can play any character with regards to background, skills, etcetera, as long as your background makes you suitable to be recruited by a US-based organization. Your character will have one or more psionic powers, have some mystical nature, or both.

The Ghosts of New York

Tara Kunkel
Slot
Slot 1

For thousands of years, spirits have inhabited the Island of Manhattan. Over time, they have formed their own society and way of unlife. Things were comfortable. Then came 1984... first there was an immigration explosion, then the dreaded so-called Ghostbusters started taking prisoners. It is not a good time to be one of the Ghosts of New York.

This game will take a look at the flip side of the popular 1984 movie Ghostbusters. Players will be playing the Ghosts. No knowledge of the movie is necessary. Just come and have fun!

The Mists of Ravenloft

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 1

Under raging stormclouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves around him, billowing his cape in the darkness. Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power - and of madness. His once-handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself.

Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind's howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd's face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they came - all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them.

Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle's towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind - or perhaps a lone wolf - fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner... and you are invited.

This game is adaption of the classic D&D setting of Ravenloft to the Key RPG System, a homebrew of my own creation. It has elements taken from various adaptions of the classic "Castle Ravenloft" adventure as well as some of my own twists so players who have played through the classic module should still find surprises. Characters will be created by e-mail with rules that will be provided.

The Well

Madeline Ferwerda Bernard
Slot
Slot 1

Around a wide and empty central shaft, a staircase spirals endlessly down in the darkness. With exact regularity are found openings to spacious empty halls, stretching into the rock.

People live here, in a city carved from the stone to either side of the halls. Their fungal ale and magical rune paint hold back the darkness for a bit... And it's not so bad an existence, now that even legends of the light have passed beyond memory.

Not so bad except that death itself holds power over the levels above where humanity ekes out its meager lot. The bones of the ancestors animate into twisted monstrosities and attack, and previous cities have sometimes fled downwards en masse, abandoning their works.

This is the Well. You are a group of orphans who have had a turn or two as "gravediggers", the odd sorts who attempt to rescue artifacts from higher levels. Now, though, when a madman has carried your den mother up and away, you choose to risk more than ever before.

-----

This is going to be tangentially Amber-related, but the majority of this game is "The Well" by Peter Schaefer. It's a game about exploring, finding things, and killing monsters; it uses a few d6's in a simple and easy-to-grasp way. The kickstarter shows some of the art: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shoelesspetegames/the-well-rolepla…

Be ready for a dark, creepy atmosphere and some bitter fights.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This game has a very simple checkbox-based chargen system. I'll send the character sheets in advance so that you can print one (there is also a clickable version if you have no printer). Aside from that: no prep, just show up and play.
