Slot
Slot 1

A Lords of Gossamer and Shadow game, based around characters from a mutual shared gossamer world.

"Lords and Ladies of Gossamer, are quirky idiosyncratic things. They are not bound to blood line, or a musty ancestral throne for their power, but distinct and possessing individual drive and character so as to worthy in their own way of initiation into the greater mysteries of the long and winding stair. While there are 'Sovereigns' and even a 'Court' at Vala's Holding at Shatterlight, there are countess worlds but, only a finite number of Ladies and Lords of Gossamer."

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Character creation using base LGS rules and 100 points. Home World details will be finalized in a pregame creation conversation.
A common World creation is part of the character creation process.
Themes to think about:
What makes this world your character's home?
What ties does your character to your cohort?
What distinguishes your character to have reached a higher state of being?

Fiasco and Follow Fun!

Matt Andrews
Slot
Slot 1

Matt don't plot, so instead I'll facilitate playing Fiasco and Follow, two GMless games that generate their own plots!

Fiasco is modelled on things like Coen brothers movies (Fargo, Big Lebowski, Hail, Caesar!) where everything eventually goes wrong for pretty much everyone. It's a... well, you know.

Follow is a game of generating trope-y games in a variety of settings, and unlike Fiasco, there is a decent chance of a positive outcome.

Both games are narrative-based and light on rules; it mostly comes down to things like "X, set up a scene and say who's in it, Y, decide if this scene goes well or poorly", then everyone improvs from there. Warning! Dice are involved.

We can all decided which of the two we want to play, pick a playset and get going fairly quickly. It's possible that we'll have time to go through two games - both can go pretty quickly.

Gin, No Chaser

Jesse Scoble
Slot
Slot 1

The sand is chilled from the black of night, but an angry sliver of crimson glimmers along the horizon line. To the west, a scar of neon blocks out the stars. There are answers there. And trouble.

GIN, NO CHASER is a savage noir mystery that takes considerable influence from LAST CALL (Tim Powers) and ALAS, VEGAS (James Wallis). It won't play out the same, but if you know either intimately you might know too much. On the other hand, whatever happens in Sin City stays in Sin City, so maybe you'll make it out as a real winner-winner, and not just by the skin of your teeth.

NOTE: ALAS VEGAS's fugue system uses tarot cards quite heavily. I haven't quite figured out how or if I can use them virtually, but it may be a component of this game if that is important for you to know.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact me a bit in advance. Character creation will be ... fluid.

It's the modern world, with, perhaps, a few twists. But more shades of strange than out-and-out supernatural. Depending on how the cards turn up, of course.

Retribution's Orphans

Liz T
Slot
Slot 1

Amber’s thousand worthy families must play the game to stay in it and the Bayles played hard, becoming rich enough that Oberon put them on a tighter leash by ennobling grandfather Byron. That was long ago before anyone dreamed of a day Oberon would not rule in Amber.

The economic hardship that began with the intrusion of the dark tides didn’t improve when the war ended. Having been so favored during what they now call ‘Prince Eric’s Regency’ it had been a struggle to support the house without the Crown’s favor. The twenty years King Random has ruled in Amber have been harsh ones for the family. Even in the Golden Circle, it had fallen out of style to serve any of the refined products from Bayle. Changing logos helped but eventually the association was found and the most profitable segments slipped back in market share. The garbage wines sold everywhere, but diversification of product into medicinals and fuels hadn’t been enough to fill the gaps.

Prince Caine has been an ally through all and grandfather was certain without the prince, the Bayles would be in dire straits. This belief proved true when King Random expelled Prince Caine from Amber. Caine’s people, who do always seem to be everywhere, warned you to stay at sea and have a care. The prince expected his brother would dissolve Bayle, or worse.

There would never have been time to sail home, even with the best winds and clear shadow lanes. The royal guard arrested everyone who was at the estate, seized all the properties. They say Reginald and others were killed attempting to flee justice. Grandfather died in the dungeons before he’d even been brought up for trial.

They destroyed all the vineyards with fire. King Random declared Bayle dissolved. Any Bayle found in Amber or its allied states will be arrested.

Learning all this through the past month has been one shock after another. You’ve had to kill some of Caine’s (former?) agents who sought to bring you in for the bounty that has quietly been placed on your head. You know this will get worse. Being raised a merchant pragmatist you retreat to The Last Resort. There, the pirate branch of the family has operated under various banners for years. There will be assets, ships, weapons; hopefully cousins.

You’d known your grandfather was a schemer. It’s how he rose. Long before you were born, they’d fostered rumors about Queen Paulette vicious enough to incite her suicide. Grandfather would only mention it unsober; admitted only things ‘went too far’ and ‘never intended such a thing’. Your grandfather had been nervous about Random’s ascension, very worried that the ‘young king’ would hold ancient history against him. Seems like he might have prepared better for this eventuality

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
You will be playing the granddaughters of Baron Byron Bayle- Partial Pregenerated PC’s. Expect 30 mins of prep in email – more if you are wordy like the GM. I run using a modified Everway system, meaning we tell a story together and the GM uses cards as aids to the narrative at decision points. Our story will be about heroine-level humans reacting to changes wrought by forces beyond their control. This is an adult game with adult themes - You will have an opportunity to exclude or revise trauma in the backgrounds and set boundaries for in-game play. *Probably* not a happy go lucky pirate game. We are set 20-some years after Patternfall, in the 20th year of Random’s reign. Corwin made a new place during the war where he lives with a growing family. The dark forces from the war have been mostly quiet. “Chaos” is defeated.

ShadowWorld Mainline (Thursday Night)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 1

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world, except that, under the facade of media, politics, political correctnes and 'reality' there is a ShadowWorld where strange things happen: psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public. The players are psionically gifted operators of a secret organization sent on a mission. Though an ongoing world setting, it is an episodic campaign: new players are welcome.

The real world in the current day, with a few changes (e.g. Quebec, Ontario the provinces east of it became a country and, with Cuba, Ecuador and Vanuatu, formed a Commonwealth). To the public there is more terrorist acts, more military action, and, recently, more weird events (e.g. Jupiter ignited into a star, astronomers claim we skipped ahead a day in Earth's orbit, Scotland got covered in ancient forests and physically became larger, the Ark of the Covenant was found).

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld involves many adult themes, in particular, if you take (your) religion seriously, playing ShadowWorld likely is not for you.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
If you don't have an existing character that you will play again, contact the GM by email (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) with at least a vague idea for an outline of a concept. You can play any character with regards to background, skills, etcetera, as long as your background makes you suitable to be recruited by a US-based organization. Your character will have one or more psionic powers, have some mystical nature, or both.

For thousands of years, spirits have inhabited the Island of Manhattan. Over time, they have formed their own society and way of unlife. Things were comfortable. Then came 1984... first there was an immigration explosion, then the dreaded so-called Ghostbusters started taking prisoners. It is not a good time to be one of the Ghosts of New York.

The Mists of Ravenloft

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 1

Under raging stormclouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves around him, billowing his cape in the darkness. Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power - and of madness. His once-handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself.

Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind's howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his keen eyesight, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd's face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they came - all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them.

Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle's towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind - or perhaps a lone wolf - fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner... and you are invited.

This game is adaption of the classic D&D setting of Ravenloft to the Key RPG System, a homebrew of my own creation. It has elements taken from various adaptions of the classic "Castle Ravenloft" adventure as well as some of my own twists so players who have played through the classic module should still find surprises. Characters will be created by e-mail with rules that will be provided.

The Well

Madeline Ferwerda Bernard
Slot
Slot 1

Around a wide and empty central shaft, a staircase spirals endlessly down in the darkness. With exact regularity are found openings to spacious empty halls, stretching into the rock.

People live here, in a city carved from the stone to either side of the halls. Their fungal ale and magical rune paint hold back the darkness for a bit... And it's not so bad an existence, now that even legends of the light have passed beyond memory.

Not so bad except that death itself holds power over the levels above where humanity ekes out its meager lot. The bones of the ancestors animate into twisted monstrosities and attack, and previous cities have sometimes fled downwards en masse, abandoning their works.

This is the Well. You are a group of orphans who have had a turn or two as "gravediggers", the odd sorts who attempt to rescue artifacts from higher levels. Now, though, when a madman has carried your den mother up and away, you choose to risk more than ever before.

-----

This is going to be tangentially Amber-related, but the majority of this game is "The Well" by Peter Schaefer. It's a game about exploring, finding things, and killing monsters; it uses a few d6's in a simple and easy-to-grasp way. The kickstarter shows some of the art: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/shoelesspetegames/the-well-rolepla…

Be ready for a dark, creepy atmosphere and some bitter fights.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Year 23 of a 5 year campaign. I can’t count I guess.
Just a few things going on. They found the bodies of 17 missing people in a nasty, swampy place. [I swear the players are going to have to put Lojacks on everyone.] They were missing their personas, not their souls. They also found 18 jars which contained something of each of the powers . . . and possibly something else. Saving everyone, they all went to Ithaca, to relax and compare notes. They were told there was probably a way to get all the pieces of the 18th construct pulled together, but it would probably take a bit of all the powers to work. There’s still a God to be found and some avatars to show up.

Infinite Amber: Fighting Back

J.P. Brannan
Slot
Slot 2

Amber: eternal; the city without an end. After the adventures of Corwin and Merlin, it was no longer believed to be the center of the universe. Instead it is one pole of reality. War and rivalries have reshaped the universe. Kings Random and Merlin sit on the thrones of Amber and Chaos. Random's Amber will call upon all the resources at its disposal to preserve and reassert Amber's primacy. Those resources include you, his nieces and nephews, the latest generation of Amber's growing royal family. Together you'll face a threat unlike many Amber has faced before...

With Corwin's created Realm of Paris spread across the lifeless void between worlds, worlds not meant to touch now collide. Random has recently taken back control of Amber, and Amber's royal family may have discovered ways to use their Pattern to seize an advantage in the ongoing conflict.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Characters will be King Random's nieces and nephews. An alternative rule set will be used for "Infinite Amber", which will is available online at https://brannan.jp/mw/index.php?title=Infinite_Amber

Luke and Merle Face the Music

Jeremy "Bolthy" Zimmerman
Slot
Slot 2

Centuries have passed since Merlin "Merle" Corey and Lucas R. Reynard, Esq. ascended to the thrones of Chaos and Kashfa respectively. And... they really aren't good at being kings. Now dark forces threaten the universe, and an emergency set of phone booths are sent out through Shadow to recruit those who can save the day.

This is the re-run of the unexpected fifth installment of the "Luke and Merle" series, the first one in... 17 years. You're welcome.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Returning players are welcome, but I'm not giving them any sort of preference. It's been 17+ years. I don't know where I can even find that info now. We'll probably use Zoom for this game.

For returning returning players, just figure out what your character has been doing since the events in any previous "Luke and Merle" game. Since this a game without points (hence making it...pointless...?) you are free to have developed powers, especially since some players had the option to walk a Broken Pattern in previous games. I generally trust you to have enough maturity to not exploit this too much. As a general note, I do require a power base for Trump Artistry.

Otherwise, new characters will, ideally, be personalities from fiction and/or history. The big limitation is that I won't take major religious figures. If you go for characters that are godlike (Phoebus Apollo, Silver Surfer, etc) or insanely huge (Godzilla, Galactus, and so forth) be prepared to have "varying shadow laws" give you a wedgie. "Up, up, and aw— d'oh!" Characters from the hit series "The Chronicles of Amber" are out of the question. Otherwise, have at it. A group consisting of three Napoleons, Emperor Norton, Sherlock Holmes, and a pouty Elric of Melnibone works just fine.

Character proposals must be emailed to the GM. The description you give will be your character, so be certain to provide as much info regarding background and abilities as you feel necessary. The GM's knowledge base is more "eclectic" than "comprehensive," so feel free to explain things in simple terms using small words.

If you played in this in ACNW, you're welcome to play again. I barely remember the plot I used there so I can easily make up a new one if I have an encore player.

This game will be run on Zoom.

The Folly of Amber

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 2

History shows again and again how nature points out the folly of Amber. In ages past, Dworkin's experiments in the forces of the universe gave birth to the wonderous city of Amber reshaping the multiverse with it at its center....but the nature of the multiverse also created a counterbalance. For years, the royal family of Amber thought Dworkin's ramblings about the Titans were merely the addled product of his imagination. However, Gojira is real....and he has been awoken by recent experiments in Trump....and now he marches relentlessly towards Amber. Can the sons and daughters of Oberon put aside their differences to stop Gojira? Will the secret to stopping Amber's destruction be found in the tales of the other ancients? Will the Amber Defense Force's powerful mecha keep the city safe or can a way be found to peacefully co-exist with the titans?

The Folly of Amber will use the KEY RPG system, a unique card-based system that focuses on shared narrative control and co-operative play. Pregenerated Elders will be provided.

[Game covers two slots, both 2 and 3. It will start at 1 pm Eastern / 10 am Pacific time and end at 7 pm Eastern / 4 pm Pacific time. You must select both slots to play]

It has been decades since you walked the Amber Pattern. It was exciting at first being called on by the elders to undertake the numerous missions that young Amberites undertake once coming into their powers; but it wasn't long before the excitement turned to tedium as you sorted out the latest mess left over from the boneheaded moves, power-drunk fantasies, petty vengeances, or "innovations" of your elders. You did what any cousin with wit and sense did, you buried your trump deck in a warded box and struck out for the Shadow of your Desires to live in comparative peace.

You have been living a life of quiet adoration ever since! You want for nothing; your every need is tended to by your people; the beings of your Shadow hold you in reverence, even love.

Until lately.

The inhabitants of your Shadow have been behaving progressively more strangely in your presence. Some of your retainers have started avoiding you. Something just isn't quite right. Then you started noticing that things were missing, rearranged, broken, misplaced... and then there were the gaps...

Someone appears to be hijacking your life. The problem is, you think it is you.

Broken Gods

Darren Hennessey
Slot
Slot 3

All life in Creation was destroyed in an inevitable event called The Kali Yuga. A seed (a Rohi) from The World Tree was saved and cast into the Void. That seed eventually found purchase on a lifeless husk of a world and ignited a vital spark of existence. This world came to be called Ayati, which in the old tongue means hope. The promise of the Rohi is that the universe would begin again when the next age, the Satya Yuga, had begun. It's been 500 years since the world woke up, but we're no closer. Many potential gods slept within the Rohi; some fled the world, some grew old and forgotten, but only seven now remain. They are Bhagna Atua, Broken Gods, flawed, incomplete, and unable or unwilling to master their destinies, which are inexorably tied to the fate of Ayati.

These are the seven Broken Gods:

Xibalba, the Forgotten Ghost Queen: Freebooting Aztec barbarian warrior princess advancing toward a struggle with her Destiny. She's the goddess of Victory, Courage, and Strength and absolutely LOVES her life. Legend has it that she ran out of enemies to fight so she defeated her own past in a duel and forced it to yield, years dripping from its wounds, and then she banished it.

Li Qian Shen, the Sly Prince of Chance, also called The Serpent Whisperer: Genial and gracious scoundrel God of Gamblers, Wine, and Sacrifice. He foolishly cheated several old gods at gambling, claiming their tools of power and now he's being pulled in a dozen different directions and struggling with the loss of his own identity.

Ku Kuei Xian, the Immortal Skeleton Man: Saturnine and contemplative God of Misfortune, Hunger, and Temptation, subject to occasional unexpected moments of dark humor, wit, and even charm. He's a Hungry Ghost, trapped by Fate, but in search of a new path towards redemption.

Maalee, a Tender of the Garden: Rishi of the peaceful Jani tribe, Vessel of Mahananda, the Armored Titan who strides the world, and Goddess of Fertility and Magic. Her people are farmers, herbalists, bakers, artists, astronomers, and magicians. They're nomads that cultivate the land and move on after the harvest. Maalee deep down loves her sister Katnevaala, but has a fundamental philosophical argument with her.

Katnevaala, a Tender of the Garden: Warlord leader of the martial Aji tribe, Vessel of Mahananda, the Armored Titan who strides the world, and Goddess of War and Fear. Her people are hunters, soldiers, builders, blacksmiths, furriers, and slaves. They colonize the land with fortresses and redoubts. Katnevaala deep down loves her sister Maalee, but has a fundamental philosophical argument with her.

The Exile, the Broken Maker known as Sunder: Sunder is the Eldest of these New Gods, they are the last of a dozen Makers that faithfully assisted the Creator long before the Angels, before Heaven and Hell took shape or went to war, and before the World Ash took root. When the Creator asked Sunder to do something unspeakable, they refused and were exiled and stripped of their power to Create. They're a force of Mending, Love, and Change in search of forgiveness.

Yevgeni, the Wolf that Tired of Being a Man: A man who turned himself into a wolf and swallowed the Moon because it gave him power, but it's driving him mad and slowly killing him. He lost his true love, who turned into a raven and flew away. He's the God of Animals, Madness, and Chaos.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Your characters are cats, living with their humans in a superficially peaceful suburban neighborhood. But they are also heroes, defending their humans, fellow cats, and the rest of the world (or at least their part of it) from EVIL THINGS. If they can somehow get out of the house...

Setting: A lovely tree-lined neighborhood on the West side of Ann Arbor, Michigan -- frequent finalist in "Best Places to Live in the US" but always loses points for expensive housing, road quality, and football traffic. Of course, if you're a cat, you don't care about any of that as long as you're fed, have a warm place to sleep, the crows don't steal your food, and the damn demons would QUIT TRYING TO EAT YOUR HUMANS' SOULS.

This game borrows heavily enough from John Wick's "Cat" that I want to acknowledge the debt, but it isn't a straight use of the rules or setting.

Even old threats, like the Cron Hegemony have a new added menace as old enemies learn to utilize the power of magic.

Thankfully, magic isn't truly new. Some ancient orders kept the teachings of the old ways and in those old practices are the secrets to unlocking the potential that came....from the Dark Warp. With new advisors assigned to the SCS Protector, the highly trained officers of the Star Corps will need all the magical help they can get to unravel the mystery of the Sundered Worlds.

This game is a one-shot set in the early days of the Dark Warp Setting, a setting I've been developing for the KEY RPG system. The Key System is a mechanics-light system that I have been using for games at Ambercons for over a decade. No experience is necessary.

Global Frequency - TBD

Tymen
Slot
Slot 3

Are you on the Global Frequency? What is the Global Frequency? Some call it an Urban Myth, some say it’s a Faerie Tale and some call it a world conspiracy. What it is, is a worldwide independent intelligence organization, a rapid emergency response team and a private defense force all rolled into one. They deal with the threats that the world’s governments don’t want you to know about and can't handle themselves. They know trouble's coming before anyone else does. There are 1001 operatives on the Global Frequency, Intelligence Operatives, former Special Ops soldiers, ex-Cops, Scientists, Athletes. If you are an expert in your field, whatever it may be, you could be called on by the Global Frequency. You could be called on to save the world. Wait, hear that, that special ring-tone, you’d better answer it, they're calling you. You are on the Global Frequency.

Global Frequency is a game set in our world and our time. It is a gritty and messed up world, like ours is and you are its protectors. You are the agents of the Global Frequency called upon to stop a catastrophe or clean up the mess after one. Secretly and without fanfare. You handle the situations that no one else can.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Character creation rules will be using James Arnoldi's new Key rules. I will send them out. You play experts in your field, examples Scientist, Athlete, Soldier, Detective, etc.... Minor psychic abilities may be allowed, ask me. I would like the character's done at least one week before the Con.

If you've played before you may choose to keep your character or to make a new one. Either way, you have 1 extra points for your character (new or otherwise) and an extra Drama Point over what you already have.

Contact me, if you are interested.

Long Live the God Empress

Dawn Vogel
Slot
Slot 3

The Astral Galaxy has been ruled by the God Empress, She Who Sits Resplendent on the Opalescent Throne, for longer than recorded history remembers—great fat spans of millennia, at least.
You were born into one of the seven hereditary noble houses that form the God Empress’s court. As a member of the galactic aristocracy, yours has been a life of leisure and privilege. You are a fop, a dandy, a rake, a swell, and a toff. You are accustomed to being garbed in the height of fashion, drinking the rarest of libations, attending the most lavish soirees, and experiencing pleasures of dubious morality, virtue, and legality. You are a pampered, preening child born of wealth and luxury.
However, you were trained to be useful—should the need arise. You were not allowed to grow fallow. You were made to practice the arts of war and the arts of black magic. You were educated,
tutored, and made skillful. You were honed, sharpened. You are a tool. You are a weapon.
You were raised as a necro-cavalier of your noble house. You reluctantly or begrudgingly underwent training as both necromancer and cavalier because your elite status comes with an obligation—a duty so sacred your family dare not shrink from it. The God Empress reserves the right to request that the noble houses of her court furnish her with their sons and daughters to serve whatever aims she sees fit. No one can deny the whims of the God Empress.
You have been called upon by the God Empress for a task that will, no doubt, put your life in jeopardy and test your fealty to your noble family and your beloved-slash-feared God Empress. As a
necro-cavalier of the Astral Galaxy, you are honor bound to sally forth as the God Empress wills it.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This game uses dice. You have been warned.
The system for this game is Necro-Cavaliers of the Astral Galaxy, a hack of John Harper's Lasers & Feelings. Character creation details and game rules will be provided prior to the game. The character creation details are fairly simple, but I would prefer to have characters in advance of the game.
This game is inspired by Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir, but will not follow the canon of those books. You don't need to have read the books to play, but they may provide inspiration.
We will likely play this game via Zoom, with a link provided in advance.

Mumble mumble something about a LARP

Amanda Robinson
Slot
Slot 3

The Long, Annoying Restrictive Pandemic is dead, long live the LARP!

After a year of lockdown, you can finally get together and LARP again, hallelujah!

Players will play two characters:
1) a GM for a LARP that is finally able to run again after a long hiatus.
2) the arch-nemesis (LARP-wise) of another player's GM

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
We'll be using Dave Vandenabeele's Paragraph System, in which you tell me a paragraph about each character, and I ask questions if needed.

Ideally, the players will discuss amongst themselves what sort of LARP they are running and who their nemesises (nemesi?) would be. But if one GM is running an epic fantasy and another is running a space opera, I'll roll with it.

Summer vacation. For the first time in years, your parents both managed to take two weeks of vacation at the same time. After hours of discussion and good bit of wheedling on your part, your parents made the decision to leave behind the bustle and drone of the city, and make the long drive out to your erstwhile grandparents' manor on an azure lake in the mountains, nestled among redwoods.

Amber Follow: The Posse

Madeline Ferwerda Bernard
Slot
Slot 4

Follow is a game where the players come together in the slot itself to pick one of the plot/genres (like "Heist", "Build the Bomb that Ends the War", "Enact a Rebellion"), and then the game offers two-word characters that fit with that plot (like "Dirty Cop", "Foreign Scientist", "Vengeful Rebel"), and then you set up motivations that tie you to the plot and other characters, and make a secondary character, pick some of the troubles that your plot has to overcome, and go around making scenes addressing your motivations.

How does it play? Well, what do you think will happen when we get a bunch of brilliant GMs and players in a room, and start helping each other's characters suffer and succeed? It's awesome.

This year, I'm picking the genre: The Posse. Somewhere, somewhen, in the vast Amber multiverse, a group of you have ginned yourself up together to bring someone... or something... back to face justice.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Look over the character and plot seeds below and begin to think up something Amber-flavored that fits, where you can really pull the roleplaying levers. Chaosites hunting down the killer of Duke Borel? Shadowpeople hunting down the ratty little guy who cheated at cards? Is this the story of what happened to Osric and Finndo?

Everything else will happen in the slot.

WHAT MAKES OUR QUEST DIFFICULT? (PICK TWO)
1 | The outlaw has their gang with them.
2 | They are a clever snake.
3 | They have a big head start.
4 | It’s a lawless territory. There are outlaws everywhere.
5 | The badlands have a thousand places to hide.
6 | We’re not experienced gunmen. We may be outmatched in a fight.

Slot 4

After Patternfall, the Pattern-based reduction of Amberite fertility was temporarily disrupted, and many of the Elders unexpectedly found themselves to be parents.

Flora, little minx that she is, set up a shadow of her own desire where there were plenty of adventures for her child to encounter once sie was old enough to enjoy them. It has castles and pirates and faeries and all kinds of fun legendary creatures Flora encountered in her sojourn on Shadow Earth -- but nothing really dangerous.

When Random and Vialle became concerned about the safety of their child, she offered to place the heir to Amber there as well. Flora has also offered the babysitting service to several others of her sibs (not including Caine or Gerard). Flora now has a number of the Elders seriously in her debt.

Flora also visits the shadow on a regular basis under another identity, where she participates in the rustic games of the children like Marie Antoinette in her "village" acting out her shepherdess and milkmaid fantasies. In addition to the debts that her fellow Elders owe her, Flora has gained the love and affection of a number of the will-be movers and shakers of the next generation.

Some time later, Caine made the mistake of playing one game too many with Random and was banished. Gerard thought Caine was unfairly blamed for the fiasco and has arranged for him to have a ship in Shadow, where Caine now claims to be a pirate acting against the enemies of Amber.

Caine is furious at Random, and he's plotting revenge. He has managed to follow Flora on one of her many trips to the children's shadow, where he now spends a lot of time and effort trying to determine which one of the brats is Random's. He has another nefarious scheme in mind, one that will require a child of Random's blood and may even bring down Amber.

Flora has heard from the now-adolescent children about their battles with the mysterious pirates, but she still hasn't made the connection between the banished brother who lost his left hand in a duel with Benedict and the hook-handed pirate captain ...

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

Ooky! (visualize your PC around a monsterix or aberration of mundane human myths--there are minor narrative sfx the GM shall assign with Ooky)

ShadowWorld Mainline (Friday Night)

Slot 4

You are a child of a god - some sort of lesser god, demi-god, hero, villain perhaps -- a character out of Greek mythology. Across the river Styx lie the various realms of the Underworld -- Erebus, the abode of the dead; the Asphodel Meadows, where ordinary souls are sent to spend their afterlife; the Elysian Fields, reserved for the righteous and heroic; and Tartarus, an abyss as deep as it is dark, where the wicked receive divine punishment.

Though Much is Taken, Much Abides: Conspiracies and Confrontation

Amber is made weak by time and fate, but is still strong in will. Twenty years ago a new King, Random, returned victorious from the Patternfall War fought in the Courts of Chaos. The Epoch of Oberon had ended, and Eric's attempt to ignite a new age of glory had already died in ashes when it had scarcely begun. The King found he had inherited a kingdom cut off from its trading partners, depleted by war, and only kept afloat in the intervening years by the heroic efforts of Prince Regent Gerard. Now you are younger members of the royal family in service to the throne, working not only to preserve and defend Amber, but to create the Amber of the future. Diplomats, soldiers, traders, courtiers, and provocateurs, you must be proud, bold, pleasant, resolute, and now and then stab, as occasion serves. Random's worked hard to rebuild what he can of the Golden Circle military and trade alliance. It's hard to rebuild something that took Oberon centuries to build, and those who remember Amber before the war whisper that Amber hasn't regained the full measure of its former glory.

In this episode: Sinister forces have been at work behind the scenes in Amber and elsewhere. A trail of clues may lead our Lord and Ladies of Amber to the conspirators, or into the fight of their lives;

Padawans of the Mountain Temple: Shadow of the Warlord

Michael McLawhorn
Slot

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...
A world without Stars, and very few Wars. Deep in the Monsua Nebula, under an empty night sky is a forgotten world. It has been so long apart from galactic civilization that few there remember other worlds even exist.

The pacifist Nautolan Jedi Master Manju Suri exiled himself here rather than take up arms in the Clone Wars. He created the Mountain Temple, a spirtual retreat consecrated to nonviolence, contemplation, and the perfection of physical movement. In time, seekers who felt a calling in the spiritual energy called the Force of Heaven and Earth were drawn to him, seeking his teachings. Certain gifted orphans he adopted as and raised as disciples, sending them out as pilgrims and emissaries of compassion, insight, and protection. They were counselors, defenders of the weak, healers, engineers, and seekers of knowledge.

You and your siblings are those Padawan monks, returning home for the Festival Season...where a tragic discovery awaits you...

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
The game will be played using a slightly modified version of Fate RPG rules, similar to the one used in last year's "Wreck of the Hyperion" adventure.

Players will be expected to work with each other to create characters with shared histories and connections. The core mood of the game is a mashup of Wuxia and Star Wars lore. Each PC should be a different flavor of Force Sensitive.

Rules and character creation guidance will be forthcoming.

Pendrad: Reveal (2021)

R.F. McCaughey
Slot
Slot 5

In Pretty Amber, there sits a King of All Order. In Dark Chaos, there hovers a Queen on the Edge of the Tree of Matter. Amber and Chaos have vexed us since before the Nameless spit out the Logrus. Terrible immortals, they parcel the universe and squabble over mysteries. Pendrad is found. Lords of Shadow and Gossamer have uncovered that which was so Long Lost we nearly forgot it ourselves. Once the Glorious Pendrad was the Crafting the UnderGods feared, and too long they have forgotten who built the Pendrad. We call You of all Bloods together, for a Memory returned. Young Immortals are pretty, but not the prettiest or most wicked. For they are not Fae.

Play the Immortals who existed before the Universe had Shadows, the Fae. They are incredibly ancient. They have mad skillz. They breathe Magic. They are nearly extinct... but maybe that can change! please read 'Lords of Gossamer and Shadow' by Jason Durall. Your PCs will be tasked by the Great Khans of the Fae... you may pick your own Khan (returning players have first choice), based on character design OR contact with the GM by email.  The web page to get flavor background of Pendrad series is  https://intheshadowofgreatness.wordpress.com/2005/01/09/imc_fae_khans/.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Players encouraged to make early contact with GM: arrefmak@gmail.com. Please use the rule set 'Lords of Gossamer and Shadows' instead of the Amber DRPG. Additional 'flavor notes' at https://intheshadowofgreatness.wordpress.com/2014/04/24/the-pendrad-shining-liquid-universe/

Sapphire & Steel & Amber

John (JD) Davies
Slot
Slot 5

"All irregularities will be handled by the forces controlling each dimension.
Transuranic heavy elements may not be used where there is life.
Medium atomic weights are available: Gold, Lead, Copper, Jet, Diamond, Radium, Sapphire, Silver and Steel.
Sapphire and Steel have been assigned."

You are the mysterious and powerful, not quite human Elements tasked with protecting the world from those that exist Outside. There are creatures from very beginnings of time and the very ends of time that are forever seeking for tears in the fabric of reality to gain entry to our dimension. Evil, hungry entities that will take people out of reality and time. These tears can happen at any point in the timeline and you are assigned to stop the adversaries from causing irreparable harm.

This is your role and you have never questioned it. Working tirelessly to contain the irregularities, never once questioning just who it is that assigns you to these cases as that does not seem to matter. Never once asking who you really are. You probably couldn't really say where you came from or what life you had before becoming an Element, as that isn't important. Your job is to contain the incursions and nothing else matters.

All this may soon change. There is a storm brewing. It is rare for more than two, or three elements at most to be assigned to a case. Almost unheard of. Until now. You are all assigned to investigate an unspecified irregularity at the November Hallows Travelling Carnival. You may not like what you find there.

The time is 1985 and a storm is coming.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This is a game based on the cult British TV series Sapphire & Steel (1979-1982). Familiarity will be useful for getting the feel of the setting but not essential.

Character gen will be done over email before the con. The game is diceless but different to the Amber rules as it is specific to creating "medium atomic weight" element characters.

It should have been the trip of a lifetime, to see Nepal, to hike a trail, to see mountains bigger than any on earth. But the dreams that you have had in the guest houses, of swordplay, of fire, water, earth air and wood, of magic, and of danger, those you could live without. And why do you think you know your fellow trekkers, having almost certainly never having met them before?

And why do you have the feeling that you are being followed?

And what will happen when your tour guide asks you try and open a Door and see what is beyond?

Second Breath is a LOGAS game based on Lords of Gossamer and Shadow, with elements of Exalted, Scion, and Amber. Characters start off as seemingly ordinary Earth people, who find out that the truth is rather different. What will happen when your character takes their second breath?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
100 point LOGAS characters without powers having grown up normal lives on Earth. Banking is allowed but do not bank for Stair based powers.
Also, players should decide on the element they are most aligned with:

Air: Logical thinkers and intellectuals.
Earth: Bastions of stability and tradition.
Fire: Passionate and flashy.
Water: Determined and patient.
Wood: Nurturing and sensual

Target:AMBER

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 5

This time, this place (well, sorta, there were a few minor changes). You are elite soldiers from militaries around the world, and attached specialist and even civilians, in a black ops program dealing with invasion of Earth by non-humans, the TARGETS. The Colonels' Council running the program generates missions ranging from reconnaissance of parallel worlds reachable through the tunnel system, to support and expansion of off-world bases and even a proto-colony, in case Earth falls. This is current day Earth, sort of. This is Amber, sort of. Target:AMBER grew out of Patrick Brady at AmberCon UK running a one-shot (which became a 9 year campaign that ended half a decade ago) musing on the casual strength and resilience of Amberites described in the first books, and consider what the whole package would be, in speed, reaction speed, senses. Consider dogs that can run down a Mercedes and tear pieces off of it, and think what it would mean to face a pack of those, as a mere mortal, with Earth arms and armor. Consider how many Amberites have visited Earth over the years, and how they play games. This starts on Earth as we know it, but a bit different. The multiverse after the first five books, and then some. This is Target:AMBER V2. It is not a spin-off, not a reboot, this is a continuation of Target: AMBER, as run by Patrick Brady at AmberCon UK, and the spinoff set in the same universe run by Tim Hart at Ambercon NorthWest. What more can I tell you?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact the GM (ambercon.com@voskamp.org). Characters are created using the Amber Diceless Role-play system, but based on 10 points rather than the 100 points of normal Amberite characters (though attributes are Human = 0, Chaos = 5, Amber = 10). Points can be spent on Attributes, Stuff, Background, and Items.

The Weight of a Thousand Years: Reborn

Eleanor Todd
Slot
Slot 5

Last year, on Tuesday September the 22nd, the world changed.

Before, the Age of Myth and Legends was the echo of a bell last rung two thousand years ago.

On that day, the bell rang anew, and all over the world something like "magic" began its steady return. Human occultists and mystics discovered traces of what they'd long sought, while the sleeping remnants of the prior age began to awaken and emerge. Only time will tell what this will mean for gods, humans, and everything caught between.

Six months have passed, and you are among the few called to join the Order of Guardians. Founded by ancient beings and powerful humans, it stands between the realms of divinity and humanity, seeking to find a balance that upholds them both. The rumbling of cataclysmic change grows ever louder, and you are all you know of that holds back the chaos a little longer.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Players will need to read a short briefing on the game world and think of a character concept before the game. Characters will be finalized and fleshed out at the start of the session.

CODE NAME: OZYMANDIUS -- A World in a Grain of Sand

Simone Cooper
Slot
Slot 6

A new mission from the mysterious OZYMANDIUS for members of Earth's team of elite Path Masters, stationed on Cynosure:
For all of time, the births and deaths of Shadow Realms, however catastrophic, took place anonymously and mostly unmourned, hushed by the silence of the Veils between worlds. Now that the Veils are thin, and the Paths are open to any with the eyes to see, what happens when catastrophe strikes?

This is an episodic game open to new team members at any time.

CHARACTERS:
We are a team of Path Masters from Earth--what we now know is one of many Earths. As Path Masters, we can spot and traverse Shadow Paths. For the past year we have lived and worked in the crossroads city of Cynosure for many reasons: recon, adventure, employment, to save our home. Over that time, we have heard rumors of a mysterious employer, one who demands incredible commitment from their people, but who also provides incredible rewards: access to Jewel Ghosts; horses of Arden; weapons of allShadow; passkeys to the locked Realms of Faerie.

After many successful independent missions, we received Cynosure's fabled golden ticket, an invitation to the back room of Munden's Bar, and an interview is with the independent agent code-named OZYMANDIUS. Apparently we were successful enough that our benefactor has called on us again ....

SETTINGS:
Cynosure: the shattered mirror of the Keep of Four Worlds, a crossroads of the many ShadowPaths. It is a hundred years after Patternfall and decades after the Veils fell from our eyes ... [Setting based on the GRIMJACK comics. Player knowledge of the comics not necessary but can be fun.]

Amber: the rose of creation, faded now that the shaping hands of the Pattern have lost their strength, but still considered the Father of all Shadow--a father who may yet be jealous of his lost power.

Chaos: a scattered but wealthy collection of realms well-positioned to take advantage of the changes wrought when the Pattern lost its sway, a hive of "scum and villainy," heroism, beauty, and danger.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Returning players may use a character they've already made for the game; new players may create characters based on a set of pre-generated character skill packages to balance the group. We will discuss the state of Earth's Cynosure Outpost and get an idea of why making a big score now is important to you, and what your team might seek from OZYMANDIUS as its reward.

Communication exchange before the convention is essential but should be brief. Please DO NOT sign up if you cannot do this.

This will be an early Amber history game, allowing players to play their favorite elder, many, many years before the 1st set of books. All elders are available (except Dworkin and Oberon), or you can make one up, or I have a few others to spare. As one of the lines Corwin says, “I was a prince of Amber. It was true.

Monster of the Week: What about Bob?

Slot 6

An odd voicemail. A dilapidated motel. A family reunion. What the heck is going on in Southern Indiana, and can you stop it before it's too late? Can you stop it at all?

"Monster of the Week" is an action-horror RPG, with an Apocalpyse Engine-driven rule set. You'll play a team of monster hunters (think Buffy or Supernatural), solving a supernatural mystery of some kind. We'll work out who you are, why you do what you do, and how your team got together all at the beginning of the game.

This is roughly the same MotW scenario I ran at vACNW 2020.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
We'll create characters (choose and customize playbooks) at the start of the slot, but I'll send out a PDF with the available player handbooks so you can review them in advance. It may be helpful if you can print out your playbook once chosen, or otherwise have a way to mark up your selected book during play. You'll also need two 6-sided dice or some digital facsimile.

- Gunter Dorn, Dasa Ungeheuer Darin

In 1991, White Wolf released Vampire: The Masquerade, "A Storytelling game of personal horror." This will be an attempt to clumsily recreate the nostalgia of playing this as though it's new, using the canned scenario from the back of the book. This may be grim and gritty existential horror, this may be drinking and self-referential humor. I make no promises.

So set the WABAC machine to 1991. Dig out your black lipstick and leather pants. (Or don't. I'm not your mom.) George Bush is president, Silence of the Lambs is in movie theaters, Northern Exposure is on TV, and topping the Billboard Charts is "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams. Pieces of Shadow

Slot 6

A new shadow has appeared, something not that strange, in most regards. However, this shadow is impenetrable to anyone wishing to enter it. Trump, Pattern, Logrus, Shapeshifting and Sorcery have all failed to allow anyone to enter it. Furthermore, it has been discovered that this shadow is expanding and absorbing other nearby shadows into itself. Clearly, this is not good. How is that a shadow is impenetrable while at the same time being capable of absorbing other shadows? Random, as well as other siblings of his, have noticed this. It is not known if the Courts of Chaos have observed it either, but something must be done. There are many questions and few answers. In a secret meeting at Castle Amber, it was decided that Bleys would be in charge of investigating this matter. Bleys, however, does need help. He has asked the 4th generation for assistance. This is where the players come in. Can they and Bleys discover the mystery behind this strange shadow and stop it before it possibly becomes something much more dangerous?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Players will have 150pts to spend on their characters.

Amber and Shadow Knight are available. (No Constructs)

There will be no Attribute Auction. Instead players will make characters on their own and will choose ahead of time their Ranks in Attributes. Its sort of like a Blind Auction. At the start of the game, players will submit their characters to me. I will look over each character and declare the Rankings based on the sheets given to me. In other words, you won't know ahead of time where you stand in the Rankings, until all characters have been submitted to me. So best to choose high and hope for the best. In the rare case of a tie in Attributes, it will be decided who is higher by whoever has the higher Good Stuff and by whoever has spent the most points in Attributes.

Character Sheets can be submitted to me in PDF or Paper. If its a paper sheet, please scan or take a picture of it ahead of time.

Make sure to have a good Internet Connection and Headset. Video is not required. Just voice.

ShadowWorld: Crime Leagues

Robert Haight
Slot
Slot 6

This serial campaign is set on Earth in the 1950s, an alternate timeline where psionics exist and most psionics for various reasons turn to a life of crime. Characters are drawn into a newly established criminal syndicate to use their wits, cunning, powers and brute force in the transformational years where old world orders are crumbling with money and power to be had in plenty for those who can take it. Note: This game has the potential to turn historic and religious events upside-down. Players who have difficulty separating their personal cultural or religious beliefs from those of their characters may find elements of this game disturbing and may wish to look elsewhere.

Psionic ability is not a heritage of the privileged unless they have gone off to war or suffered terrible misfortune. It is much more common among the poorest classes struggling for survival. However psionic abilities remain largely unknown to the general population. Science pokes and prods at the concepts of psionics, but because few people come forward claiming psionic ability and because scientists have been unable to bring people to the breaking points where psionic abilities emerge. Psionics are often drawn into the underworld because they have grown up on the street and their abilities give them a chance at a step up in life, they are combat veterans looking to stay in the profession or variously find that what they seek in life is not to be found in more reputable occupations and lifestyles

Slot
Slot 6

Before the events in the saga's of Corwyn of Amber (which are accurate and in no means dramatized), and before the events of Corwyn and Eric's epic duel between each other there was a crisis in Amber in the absence of Oberon.

You've heard the stories Corwyn tells of the events and of his unreliable narration. During an extended absence from Amber Prince Eric had to lead an uprising to storm the walls of Amber. Prince Bleys served as Regent and Corwyn of Amber was his right-hand man.

I attest the following events are all true and shall regale you of the tales of these events

King Random
King of and in Amber

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
This is a Throne war:

Points available are 375,
Maximum Bad stuff is 10

You will play either a child of Oberon, Osric, or Findo

You may play any canon child of Oberon except for Random, Corwyn, or Eric.

These events take place before the infamous duel of Eric and Corwyn but will eventually lead up to them.

If you wish to play one of the Canon children of Oberon I request that you do a different take on them than what we saw in the books. The books are Merlin and Corwyn's perspective (as unreliable narrators). This is the perspective from the CONSIDERABLY more reliable narrator that is Random. And this tale is in no way Random telling propaganda in the form of a previously unremarkable war in Amber amongst the family. King Random would never do that.

I look forward to people presenting a non canon child of Oberon.

Slot 7

Set about a century after the Patternfall War.

With Chaos, Rebma and Amber at peace. (we don't talk about what the Jesbys tried a few years back. And we don't mention what your cousin Lorius did in response. The crater in the Black Zone is still radioactive anyway), cooperation and working together on mutual problems and concerns are more the rule of the day.

Which is to say that one doesn't take advantage of opportunities or issues, of course.

Reports from Rheaine of House Ishtar, daughter of Eric, of a strange, expanding region of shadow have come to the attention of both Merlin and Random. And Moire has interest, too. The era of cooperation is going to be tested, as a joint force of Amberites and Chaosians and Rebmans are going to go get some real facts on the ground about what is impinging on Amber and Chaos' suite of Shadows...on the Boundaries of Infinity.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game

**Exception is the Rebman Pattern. 50 points. Moire controls and gives the ability to have someone walk the Pattern and gain its power through her advanced mastery of her Jewel.

Cat Game (Sunday)

Joe Saul
Slot
Slot 7

IF YOU PLAYED IN THIS GAME AT ACNW, do not sign up for this one. Content will repeat.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Pregenerated characters will be supplied at the game. No prior homework is required. I guess if you don't know what a cat is, you may want to look them up. I hear there may be some photos on the Internet.

Mysteries of the Multiverse

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 7

The Multiverse. A multiverse of realities and timelines and on every one there is an Earth. There are Earths that are home to powerful wizards and Earths where magic does not exist. There are earths where colorful superheroes do battle with powerful villains and worlds where everyone just struggles to survive. The multiverse is a collection of infinite earths.

For the safety of the multiverse, a powerful race known as the Monitors ensures that travel between universes is rare and the stability of the multiverse is maintained.

....but what happens when a mystery comes along that leaves them clueless? Who do they go to? Well, every Monitor is aware of at least one "world's greatest detective" and it is time to call them all in.

You are one of those detectives. You can be any detective you want....but in your world you are one of the best. Who will you be? Sherlock Holmes? Miss Marple? Lt. Columbo? Jessica Fletcher? Batman!? Encyclopedia Brown!?! Detective Chimp!?!? Can even the multiverse's greatest detectives solve "the murder in the multiverse?"

You can even play any character as long as they are known for solving crimes and they come from a setting where there is an Earth. (They don't have to be from it so if you want to play Mr. Spock, he may find this mystery....fascinating.) Character creation will be handled using a streamlined version of the Key RPG System by e-mail.

Neverhere: New York's Not My Home

Slot 7

“Been in so many places

You know I've run so many races

And looked into the empty faces of the people of the night

And something is just not right.

Though all the subways are crowded

There's something strange about it

I lived above about a year and I never once felt at home.”

If you’ve read or seen "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman, the idea starts there. You don’t have to know the story to play in the game though. The GM has never been to London, but has lived in New York. Last year I ran “Subways Of New York” as a sort of intro to this idea. Using the Neverhere setting, each year will have a different story, so you don’t have to have played a previous year. Explore a side, make that explore the below side of New York City with talents to help you get through and stay alive. Characters can be upsider, in-betweener, or downsider.

I will set up a wiki soon to point out some of the highlights of the underrealm.

ShadowWorld Mainline (Sunday Day)

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 7

Game will run late: I hope, and will work hard to, end by 5pm. It may run as late as 6pm. I hope to end the Mainline games at ACUS big.

Young witches of any gender are welcome at the Unbound Academy, one of the best institutions for magical learning. Nestled in the wooded lands near Salem, Massachusetts, the Unbound Academy is home to some unusual happenings, but don't let that deter you from becoming one of our incoming students!

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
You are a student newly arrived at The Unbound Academy, a school for young witches of any gender. New students are generally high school aged (15-18), but can be older or younger. You get to choose your character’s house based on the type of magic they specialize in and/or the personality traits that stem from witches of that specialty, though students take classes in all four Houses’ preferred subjects and other areas. House of Deluge (water, movement, crossroads, doorways) House of Shadows (fire, light, darkness) House of Vines (earth, plants, poisons) House of Mists (air, ghosts, necromancy) The game will be mostly freeform, with some details of your character determined ahead of the game. Character creation is simple: pick a species. Pick something you're good at. Pick something you're bad at. Congratulations, you're done. MouseGuard Amber: Some Are Born Great

Under the forest canopy of Arden lies a hidden world, known only to a select group of Julian's Rangers. Strange creatures continue to breach the boundaries of Arden and threaten Amber, and the Guardsmice of Arden stand ready to defend it.

This is an Amber/MouseGuard mashup that relies predominantly upon ADRPG rules, fleshed out with MouseGuard traits and abilities. Knowledge of the Mouse Guard RPG is not required. It is set during the events of Nine Princes in Amber. This is a fun romp through Forest Arden that will end on time or possibly a little early.

ShadowWorld WWII

Edwin Voskamp
Slot
Slot 8

ShadowWorld is a diceless roleplaying game based in our world in August 1942, playing operators of a branch of the Special Operations Executive, Room 33. They are sent out to interrupt the nonstandard research and development efforts the Third Reich is performing: black magic, psionic powers, ancient secrets, dark conspiracies that are hidden from or dismissed by the general public.

The players are operators of the SOE, with magical, psionic gifts or mutations, sent on mission into occupied Europe. It is a serial campaign: a series of missions that can be played independently in an ongoing world setting. You don't need to do any preparation or play more than once, but the more you put in, the more you get out of it. Note that this setting shares game mechanics, but no cosmology, history, or anything else with the 'Mainline' ShadowWorld campaign.

The setting is the real world in August 1942 with some changes (all due to player character actions): the Bismarck wasn't sunk and is now hidden with her sister ship the Tirpitz, and the two battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in the Norwegian fjords, but more importantly, the leadership of Germany and Italy were massively changed:

  • In February, 1942 Hess and Himmler were killed.
  • In early April, 1942 Hitler, Von Ribbentropp, Mussolini, and Galeazzo Ciano were killed.
  • In late April, 1942 Heydrich took over as Führer and had Goering, Bormann, and Canaris killed.
  • On April 30, 1942 Heydrich and the assembled top of the SS were killed.

(Mis)guided by the advice of Aleister Crowley, consultant on mystical matters to the SOE, a team manipulated events to put Erwin Rommel in place as the new Führer.

CONTENT WARNING: ShadowWorld WWII involves many adult themes.

Game will run late: I expect, and will work hard to, end at 1am.

We will splurge remaining food vouchers, money and all to conduct the traditional chicken armageddon sometime mid game.

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Contact the GM (ambercon.com@voskamp.org) before the con with enough of a character concept (see below) to create a character from. If the kindly GM does not get a character concept by the weekend before the Con, you won't be able to play. You can play any character with a background, skills, et-cetera, that makes you suitable to be recruited by the SOE, an English organization (e.g. resistance, intelligence, military, et-cetera). You must be able to pass for a German in the more selective of its armed forces (e.g. blue-eyed, blond-haired, physically well), and not only speak German like a native, but have an understanding and appreciation for Germany and its culture (e.g. exchange student, German nanny, et-cetera). Your character will have one or more psionic powers or mutations. If you're familiar with the ShadowWorld system, these are looser and can be more mystically oriented, and you have 4 points (i.e. 10 orders less powerful than ShadowWorld Mainline characters).

Star Trek TNG/DS9: Everyone Comes to Quark's

James Arnoldi
Slot
Slot 8

Captain's Log Stardate 51398.2. The Enterprise-E has proven itself worthy of the name of its predecessor. We took heavy abuse from Jem'hadar Battleships in the Battle of Betazed, but she held up admirably. Between the liberation of Counselor Troi's homeworld and the recent news that the Romulan Star Empire has joined the Alpha/Beta Quadrant alliance, the crew is hopeful that we will soon see an end to this war with the Dominion. We are now on route to Deep Space Nine. Our Diplomatic mission to the Gorn Hegemony has been cut short as we have received new high priority orders to meet an ambassador there on the frontlines. Is it possible that the Dominion are ready to negotiate peace? If so, why would they specifically ask for the Enterprise? Admiral Gao did not provide much in the way of details but curiously we are to meet in a bar on the station run by a local Ferengi.

This game will use the Star Trek Adventures RPG System and will be set during the 6th season of Deep Space Nine and will explore a bit what the crew of the Enterprise was doing during the Dominion War. There will be some dice, but dice rolls will be handled by the Gamemaster. Pregens for all main cast members from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine will be available.

Too Many Sorcerers

Sasha Smith & Michael Mirth
Slot
Slot 8

What sinister plot manifests in the Magic Circle of London? They should all be merely stage magicians in this backwater shadow reminiscent of foggy gaslighted England. Something more is afoot. It's a study in . . . well, some hypothetical color that only magicians are capable of seeing for one reason or another (like scarlet/emerald). Your job is to infiltrate this august body, requiring you to perform a 'trick' at the audition. Piece of cake for powerful Chaosians with sorcery such as yourselves, right? But what if you out yourself to the shadowy mastermind behind it all? Players will be asked to perform one magic trick for the group, for the delight of all others, with one path for those accepted into the organization and another for those who are turned down. Each will have objectives; can you fulfill them in time?

What do players need to do to prepare for the game
Build a chaos character with 100 points, which must include sorcery (minimally). Your outlook is that of a closer, a la Night in the Lonesome October. If you are intimidated by having to perform a trick for the others, you may use your sorcery skill, but this may have other . . . pitfalls.
